Bar S cheap sausages

Got a giant pack of these for $3.99. As you guys probably know Bar S has some of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, hot dogs at most grocery stores. So I tried a pack of their very cheap sausages that are obviously meant to be eaten with a bun like a hot dog. Had one tonight, with chili and cheese, Texas style. No sissy-arse veggies, ketchup or funky sauce down here, just dog, chili and cheese. They are mighty good!!! Hope this helps any of your guys that were on the fence about trying these. Darned tasty!!!

No thanks. My significant other picked up a big pack of their hot dogs awhile back for our food stash and they are horrible. Even grilled, no way. If times get really bad they will be the last thing I look for.

Not like he's wrong though ... Bar-S dogs are worse then most store-brands and comparable to generic.

Considering how unhealthy they are, if not straight delicious then why bother?

First ingredient is mechanically separated chicken. Untouched by human hands! Important in these days of covid-19.
 
I had some of these during the height of the food panic as it was the only "meat" available. They were strangely inconsistent in size and tasted like something I would expect in a school lunch. I do not recommend.
 
I'm trying to think of the brand of hotdog I grew up eating. We were poor so I grew up eating the cheapest hotdog for sale at the supermarket. We never ate beef hotdog because it was too expensive. It was the chicken and pork mixture one. Maybe it was Bar S brand. I don't know. It was around $0.49 to $0.79 for pack of 8 when I was a kid. Since I didn't eat 100% beef hotdog until I was an adult, I thought that was how hotdog tasted.

Jennie-O was cheapest brand-name brand when I was a lad. Then there were those big bags of really pink wieners.

Pretty sure we used to have Oscar Meyer beef franks which are available largely unchanged to this day.

Not exactly the best hot dogs but compared to Bar S they're gourmet.
