Hear hear, this is one of those awesome times that you can actually just do business elsewhere and avoid the problem.

Banks don't care much about you and really they probably don't even want your business anyway.

Its a shame that they wouldn't have a counting machine considering most banks these days have so much money they build so many branches and still open up more and more.

My local bank has a coinstar machine that is free to members.

I had never been to a bank that did not accept change...until I moved to Grand Rapids, MI. It still absolutely pisses me off that they don't. I pay that f...ing back $800 per month in interest on my mortgage and they can't offer me the service to accept my loose coins. My god they are a bank--they should accept money!!! And, they do make machines to count that money!!!!

And to think that they would want you to spend the time to roll the change...that is absurd, demeaning, and just outright ridiculous.

Well I know exactly how much I have in coins because my piggy bank only holds up to $100 in coins... it said so on the label!

I wouldn't want to be the person behind you wanting to make a simple check deposit while I wait an hour for the teller to count your coins...

Many banks have these things called machines...

None of my banks have. Always have to bring in rolls if you want them to deposit it.

Same here, and to top it off...they won't take them unless I clearly write my name on the roll. I guess some people like to get $10 bucks for a roll of washers :p

When I go into a store, I'll just grab a dollars worth of change from the ashtray. Pay any bill with change with change. Also, use my debit card as much as possible. Never have more than a small ashtray of change.

so i did, and now i don't understand why they made me do that, I thought one of the jobs of banks was to give change and stuff

I hope that you got the Amazon.com gift certificate instead, so you didn't have to pay that ridiculous 9% "counting fee" that CoinStar charges.

Besides... BoA wasn't going to give you a decent interest rate on your money anyway. I just leave a gift certificate balance sitting in my amazon.com account instead, and use it to buy birthday and Christmas gifts for family members.

Mine has an automated machine that after you dump the coins in to be counted it then adds the amount to your account.

I would have immediately withdrew all of my money, closed my accounts and brought my business to another bank.

My wife works in the banking industry and I find it extremely hard to believe that a bank does not have a coin counting machine. It is a standard piece of equipment for a bank. Furthermore, if the person working for the bank actually advised me to use a coinstar machine which takes a fairly large percent of your money then I would have to believe that the employees of the bank are idiots.

Hell, my wife has church fairs bring in big bags of unsorted money (basically an assload of bills just thrown into a bag). Granted they will not count out the money in front of you right that moment they will count it out before the end of the day and deposit it. If the bills are organized they are happy to count them out in front of you to verify the amount but they are not going to hold up the other customers because you didn't take the time to organize your deposit. However, they will not simply refuse your deposit.

Ironically, if a regular customer brings in rolled coins they unroll them and put them into the counting machine. You would be surprised how many people stick a bunch of non-American coins into the middle of the rolls to try to get a few more bucks out of the bank.

Yea, so does mine. :)

My mom owns a big vending company. I bring in my pale of coins and let their machine count them all. Takes like 30 seconds then she gives me cash for the change.

Roll it first.....I've never heard of someone going into a bank and just giving them a sack of change. that's ridiculous. They have better things to do with their time. You also spelled America wrong.

Do you think they have a staff of squirrels or some guys that they picked up outside of Home Depot sitting there counting coins???

Good luck.
