well i thought wachovia is a good place to open up but alot of people are telling me BoA is alot better becuase of thier services. I want to know what ATOT thinks! My little sister is growing up and wants to have a Good Bank so i am going with ATOT with this one.

Wack-ovia has better service, but BoA constrictor has wider range of services and more branches.

Chase is my preference, though, because they are everywhere in NY. They spread like a plague over last few years over the east coast.

but Wachovia and Wells Fargo merged, so becuase of this you think it will be greater than BoA in the Long Run? Wells Fargo is pretty big here

BoA is the US Gov's pet. The Gov wanted them to buy Merrill, and sweep the "issues" with the deal under the rug. 🙂

I don't think that Wells Fargone merger will effect checking services much, or at all.

I've had both. Had decent service at both. I like BoA's "keep the change" savings plan. It works for people that use their card a lot I suppose (I don't). Is she planning to stay in the area, or travel? That makes a difference. Choose one that's easily accessed locally and in areas she travels to the most. If she wants to use them for other things (savings, eventual mortagage, CD's, etc) have her check that too and compare.

I think that plan is just stupid. I can save my money just fine without them charging me more on everything I buy just to put a few cents in a savings account that hardly earns any interest. Thankfully I don't deal with it these days as the only reason I opened a BOA account was for ease of money with draws in Europe.

I've been with Wachovia for many years and never had a problem with them. Where I am there are plenty of branches so I never have an issue finding a bank. And while I've not had a problem with identity theft some of my friends have and Wachovia gets it taken care of in a reasonable amount of time.

Even though I have both I still use my Wachovia as my primary.

I've had good luck with smaller local banks when it comes to checking. There are several that offer really high interest rates on checking accounts provided you do a few things -- certain number of debit charges, e-billing, direct deposit, etc. The requirements will depend on the bank. A lot of these banks also offer refunds on ATM withdrawal fees, so you really don't have to worry about finding one from your bank. Just make sure it's insured 🙂.

I like Schwab's High Yield Investor Checking. Interest bearing checking account (.75APY but better than nothing), free checks, and all ATM fees are waived.
