I use BoA (bank of america) and everything is good except for the monthly maintenance fee of 4 dollars.

I know wachovia doesn't have any monthly fees but i don't know if it's worth the trouble of switching over, redirecting/reverifying everything to the account, etc.

The wife and I have used BofA for over 30 years and have never had a maintenance fee. What sort of account are you talking about?

You should never be paying for giving your money to a bank so they can skim some interest off of it... My bank is free with no minimum limit. If I send them my ATM recipes they'll even compesate me for the charges other banks give for using their ATMs. Only problem is on my banks ATMs they charge 1$ for a minibalance :(

Go to their site and compare the accts. See if there is one that would be better for you. If not, then look for another bank or CU.

my guess is that you have an interest bearing account so you have to maintain a minumum balance. If you fall below that limit, you have to pay the maintenance fee.

check to see if you have an option for a non-interest bearing account that does not charge a fee.

hope that helps...

I believe I pay a maintenance fee on my BoA checking account fur using the online service. I haven't written a check in years, and I find their system to be exceptionally valuable. Perhaps I need to go talk to them about my account...

I have a WAMU checking account. The monthly fee is $13.00 which is waived.

I would never pay $13.00. That's ridiculous.

I use Washington Mutual free checking. There's a charge if I need a bank check though.

you pay $4 to let your bank lend your money to others? that's not right. change your account or go to a better bank (or even better a credit union)

Change account man.
Theres many ways of getting free account.

1) If you're a student
2) Direct deposit with your job
3) An automatic deposit from your checking to saving account(min $25) each month.

I use the 3rd option for the free account.
I also use WAMU too. Free checking.

Having 2 banks is great. I just use which ever I find.
There tons of them in Fla and Cali.

local bank, Visa Gold debit card, no minimum balance. You pay a $2 monthly maintenance fee unless you have direct deposit (which I do). The alternative is a $500 minimum balance, or a $1000 minimum balance earning some interest.

NEVER BANK WITH CITIBANK, I WORKED THERE. THE MONTHLY FEES ARE LIKE $9.50 if balance is not mantained, a $30 overdraft fee. If you have a gold account and cannot maintain above $100,000 they charge $25. They also give pathetic interest rates for deposit accounts, CDs etc...

I haven't paid bank fees in years. My current bank is National City and I'm very pleased with them. They even helped me beat down Cingular when Cingular tried to claim they did not recieve an online payment.

To make a long story short, National City's CS told Cingular that NC would no longer allow Cingular to debit NC accounts if they continued screwing over their customers. It was priceless.

Currently with BofA with the MyAccess checking - free w/ direct deposit. We get unlimited online billpay (which is saving us about $50 a year in stamps) which is worth it on it's own.

My older bank (with whom I still have an active account) is my credit union from back home. If I need a loan, I call them up and they put the money in my account, SAME DAY, and I do the paperwork later. Plus, they know me by name and are really good about calling me if anything ever goes wrong with my account.

You definitely need to switch if you're getting charged by a bank - they make money off you enough without charging you more.

/not old enough to miss the good old days where NOBODY charged fees

I have BoA also. I'm charged $8 a month if my balance falls below a certain amount ($800 I think). Otherwise, there's no fee.
