Bank made a mistake

My birthday was about 2 weeks ago, and relatives from around the country and world sent gifts, including money.

I got $100 in cash.

I deposited the money at the tellers window at Wells Fargo

I signed into my Wells Fargo online account today and instead of a $100 deposit, it's shown as a $1000 deposit!!

I want to do the right thing and tell them, but do I do it over the phone or go to a branch office? (the latter I can't do until Monday)

What if I get in trouble, because would they consider it as fraud?

Cliffs:
1. Got $100 for birthday, deposited it in bank
2. Online report shows that it was recorded as $1000, not $100
3. Tell them on the phone, or at branch office?

As long as you don't try to spend the money or anything, you won't get in trouble. You can call them and tell them, but they might not be able to do anything about it until Monday anyway.

Just call and tell them there was a mistake in your deposit. They will find it eventually but you might as well have it straightened out now.

Monopoly says... "Bank error in your favor!"

I say...."Go master your knowledge of proteins"

Don't worry. Happens quite often. They'll find the mistake and correct it.

If you take and spend that extra money, you'll have to pay it back. If you can't, they'll take legal action against you.

Hahah, I'm taking a short break from AP Biology studying.

I studied from 8-12, and from 12:30-2.

I'm waiting for a friend to get to my house at 3:30 so we can study together.

edit: plus, I'm doing my math homework right now since teachers dont realize that the end of april is for ap studying :p

How long does it take to correct? I deposited it on the 18th, today is the 30th.

Hijack: AP bio should be a fairly easy final. I've taken 2-3 practice tests, and the essays aren't bad at all, to the point that even if you screw up the multichoice royally, the essays will cushion you.

Good luck!

Well, my dad just got home from work and I told him about it.

He's on the phone with the bank right now, since he's the other name on the account. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

Errors in your favor can be corrected whenever they find it, even years from now. If they did the opposite you have a limited time...
