I just learned of the permanent ban of AOL (and CompuServe, sadly) users to this site, which explained why I could only post from work and not home. Is there any way to find out the reason why AOL users are banned? Did an AOL user hack the site or something?

Thank you for replying; I was beginning to think the very subject was taboo. Well, I can't say I'm surprised, and only became a CS member for the hefty $400 rebate, but will be terminating my contract soon. I hope Anandtech has nothing against NetZero as of yet....thanks again.

At one point we actually did find it necessary to block NetZero because of user abuse. But, unlike AOL, they got right on the problem and worked with us.

That's good to know...I'll check back when I'm ready to make the switch; hopefully NetZero will still be in your good graces and I won't have to hang my head in shame... Incidentally, just so I myself don't ever do what was done before unwittingly, what was the nature of the abuse of your site? Was it a matter of rude postings, threats, trolls, etc? Other than being greedy for other people's tech expertise, I don't see how this site could be abused?

I believe it had to do with people ripping off other in FS/FT.

Also if someone got banned they had no way to stop them from posting, under a new id because w/ AOL u have a limitless email address book. (you can create and deelete to your hearts content) Whne they contacted AOL to get Info on trolls, they were shunned.

I guess AOL only gives out info on their gay sailors:|:(
