I went here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only
and when I ran their tool with my key it gave me a message saying I could not install the retail version of windows.

I will try the link you sent instead.

I am interested in the recovery iso.
Yea don't use the upgrade key site. The one I linked will download whatever version of windows your laptop has.

If you are wiping the drive you use the okr iso to first partition the drive with it so you will need another flash drive. Then you boot from the windows USB and install Windows on the partition that says "windows". This way the laptop has the factory partitions, working recovery without lenovo bloat. I'll pm you a link once I upload the iso. I'm at the mechanic right now.

OK I will wait on the install then until I have that iso since I need to set that up first.

I was able to finish the download from the link you sent.

The lenovo doesnt come with a windows 8 key sticker on it so I had to use magic jelly bean to get the key.

BTW for those coming late to this thread you may want to get the 16gb memory version as you will still come in under $1k and have twice the ram.

Check your pm. Sent you the link to the one key recovery iso. You don't really need the windows key, it should register when you install Windows since its baked into the motherboard of the laptop.

Im still deciding weather to get the base model or the 16gb model. Seeing how ram is $105 or so for 16gb it may be worth it. Then I only can worry about an ssd later.

Barnes and noble gold pricing is $829 for base model, and $909 for double ram and 4gb 860m. I do development so I don't care about the GPU so much. With tax the upgraded ram model should come to $987 vs $927 compared to the model I sent back earlier this week.

Ok laptop is all set up. Re-installed Win 8.1 along with the drivers for the built in hardware as well as set up the onekey backup.

This laptop ran Warframe full screen border less window flawlessly so I am very pleased. Will have to see how it performs over time but it certainly is exceeding all my expectations so far.

For those coming to this thread late, the Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop is a great laptop for the under $1k mark. If you are going to purchase it, you may want to double your ram to 16GB and you will still be under $1k.

The y50 I retuned should arrive at lenovo tomorrow. I'm debating ordering the 16gb model now or waiting until my refund clears. I've read some horror stories about refunds taking forever.

The thing is the sale for it ends Wednesday so I'm not sure what to do. I think another "sale" price will appear after Wednesday on the Barnes and noble section of the site but the 16gb model may be more by then.
