So, if I made that purchase of the 49" display I would have seen a 15% discount magically appear in my ring-up? News to me...
No, it doesn't magically appear, you have to enter the coupon code in the box at checkout.

If you want more info on ebay coupons, check out our very own Hot Deals sub-forum here. There's like three threads on the first page or two.

Started playing Civ 6 again this weekend. Was playing on my upstairs computer that has a 4K tv dipslay and it looked great. Today I'm in my office on my 24" true RGB ultrasharp, and it just looks a little lacking...

Cool, I'll check it out...

It appears to be a model from 2017.

Seems to be in the same category as the TCL Roku sets.

Seems to be the start of model clearance & super bowl sales.
BB has this and a Toshiba, which seem to be same rebags, and Costco has the TCL for about 20 more on sale.

Been comparing specs and the hisense rebags seem decent, pre cal review mediocre and input lag twice as high as the TCL. Checking the TCL, it rates about as good as my samsung, mainly missing out in peak brightness testing.

Says 43" Sharp Roku TV. Big question for me: Does this support PAUSE/FF/REW with it's Roku support? My TCL 43S405 does and I love that functionality (only used it a couple times so far but it does work OK long as you don't do something to erase the buffer on the 16GB flash drive in the USB port).

I'm set to buy another TCL like the one I have but if this Sharp is a reasonable substitute, looks to be $50 cheaper.

Gotta check that, the other day the TCL was $249.99 online and in store.

The peak brightness of the TCL, some complaints, but yesterday I was timeshifting the news, went into settings and TV brightness was set at Darker. I changed that through the 4-5 higher settings, one being IIRC Brightest! Plenty bright for me. Wondered how black levels suffered with that, but didn't stick with it long enough to find out, I'm fine with Darker in my kitchen. Gonna run to my workout before the "atmospheric river" hits then check out this thread/deal!

They have 2 versions. The 2017 equivalent is 220 or 225, the cosmetic upgrade version of 2018 is 250.

You're talking about the TCL at Costco? All I'm seeing online in 43" is the 43S403 and it's showing $229.97 right now, until Jan. 19 (Saturday). That's basically the same as my 43S405, just slightly different bezel and different color stands, is my understanding (that from TCL support via a question I posted at Amazon).

The Sharp 43" on sale today, I just looked at the graphics they have posted there. The remote looks virtually identical to the TCL 43S405 remote I have except that they've added a sleep button (crescent moon icon on it). I have to figure it supports the same PAUSE/FF/REW functionality and probably has the same 16GB flash drive in USB port (which is limited to 16GB). I may go for this, will see what reviews say... of course, the quality of the picture is a big factor... is it on a par with the TCL? I believe that TCL makes their own screens.

https://www.costco.com/TCL-43"-Class-(42.5"-Diag.)-4K-UHD-LED-LCD-TV.product.100473144.html

Stopped by my local store as I needed some coffee anyway. They had half a dozen of the 43" of the old model, and twice that in 50" of the less old model. Looking over the rtings site, this reviews pretty close (particularly as a PC monitor) to the sammy unit I already have.

There's a Slickdeals thread on the Best Buy deal for the Sharp 43" 4K. People are saying it's actually a Hisense, some people chimed in that they had bad luck with screens going bad after a year or so. Doesn't TCL make their own screens? I figure the TCL at $30 more might be a better idea.

Yep, would stay away from that. Seems the toshiba for the same price would be better, although Hisense owns their name too, there is an existing contract that hasn't quite expired so they haven't become the manufacture yet.

Did notice a 58" Hisense in costco for just three hundred something. With the costco warranty that price and size seems like a decent gamble.

Yeah, that's the 43S423, the warehouse club version of the 43S425, so the same TV, with maybe a tiny cosmetic difference, e.g. stand color. I asked at Amazon a question pertaining to the 43S425:

I this an improvement on the TCL 43S405 or is it really the same TV?

TCL Support responded:

The new 2018 versions of 4-Series TVs offer the same great performance and features as 2017 versions. The new models offer a refreshed bezel and stand design, but features and capabilities are identical. Thank you, TCL Customer Support

So, you can save yourself some bucks by just buying the 2017 model. Both are available at Costco right now but the 2017 model is $20 cheaper. I like that I can pick it up myself, saving having to fret about untrustworthy delivery services, not to mention needing to sign for it. Plus Costco extends the warranty.

I know that's the 423, that's why I said they had 2 model versions and linked the 2nd when you said you had only seen one.

Well, going to Costco.com today I saw two 43" TCL 4K TVs, the 423 and the 403, the 423 priced $20 more than the 403... they're essentially equivalent. I'll save myself $20 and get the 403.

In the store 2 weeks ago I only spotted the 403. I think they may stock both now, but not restock the 403.

A 16GB flash drive in the USB port will enable timeshifting (gotta set it up in the options after doing a channel scan, see the manual)... love that feature on the TCL Roku TVs.

I had read about that, but I have a WMC machine as my TV service back end so have no need to use that.

Spent abou 5.5 hours yesterday setting everything 8ncluding a dinner break. Put the stand together, mounted to the TV, relocates my tower location, then connected the new display. Turned it on and ran through the setup. Account creation, and software update. Then went through and made the adjustments to get it dispkaying a 4k@60hz.

Everything was great, till I went to have it play a movie and found out HDCP was showing as disabled. Went through a nice circle of changing out cables, plugged in ports, and all that good stuff and never got the hdcp status fixed. Tonight I'm going to connect to the original monitor again and see if it comes back.

As part of the setup, I did do a video card driver update. Still shows as a WHQL driver so hope that's not the issue.

Screen quality looks decent. The less robust viewing angle is a little more apperant when sitting up close and when you have a full screen bright light color, like a full white image from a blank browser page. You do notice the imperfections more in the separate lighting sections. In game & video use it looks good though (tested 4k viewing through tv app).

Hope you get that HDCP sorted out, please update us. I watched some purportedly 4K through the TV app, looks great but it can't possibly really be 4K because my DL speed doesn't exceed 4.2mbps, it's probably a little less. I'm still stuck with my slow DSL until my ISP gets it's fiber build-out up and running here. Don't know how to determine the actual res of what I'm watching. Just because Roku is calling it 4K doesn't make it 4K. I think I need 4-5 times the bandwidth I have to stream true 4K. Well, there's different levels of 4K, so I'm told, but 4mbps can't be 4K, it's gotta by 720p, I figure. Looks good, and no stuttering basically, but I'd like to see some real 4K on this thing somehow. ATM I don't even have access to Bluray because I haven't workout of a player on the rig. I figure I'll get a dedicated bluray external player down there and have remote control support. That would be better than using a keyboard, which is (I think) what I need for Windows app support (e.g. VLC).

Swapped to another monitor and still have HDCP disabled in my radeon settings. Have started trying several driver versions and still no joy.

On the other side of odd, vudu HD works but amazon wont due to hdcp error.

Even tried using the igpu out of my i2600k with amazon and still no playback.
