bandwith limiting software

My roommate and I share a cable internet connection on a router. When I run bittorrent, it swallows up all the bandwith, including my roommates "share" of it. I'm looking for a free program that will let me manually limit the download/upload from my computer. Does such a thing exist?

Do you limit upload? That's usually where the problem comes from.

Yeah, I just limit the upload and everything works fine.

I've found that if I'm not pirating software, typically ALL of my bandwidth is available for use at all times.

Netlimiter is extremely buggy -at least for me. Like suggested, get a better client that is more configureable.
