Bandwidth Speed....What can affect it?

I was wondering if my roomate's constant downloading from direct connect and using cute ftp or something like that will have a big affect on the bandwidth. Please help
 
It sure will. Your ISP limits your speed (assuming your on broadband) and the more of that he uses up the less is left for you.
 
It also depends on what connection you have. If you're on a cable connection, the number of users logged on in your neighborhood can also have an effect on speed. T1 connection is the same because you only have like 1.5mb bandwith, and if your roommate is constantly hogging up the speed, then there's less for you. Hope this helps.
