Anyone know of a free/open source bandwidth monitor/throttler?

My GF is now addicted to Azureus and althouogh I know she can throttle through the program itself, she cant be trusted :)

Im using a router with a few PC's connected so something that monitors by IP address would be great :)

Cheers

Yeah I am pretty aware of all those solutions, but none are really much use.

I would also dissagree with a lot of the what that site is saying, there is lots of software out there that will do that kind of stuff even on a peer to peer as long as the router supports snmp.

My router does, however the software is mostly very expensive for home use as its obvioulsy pitched more at the business market.

Thats why I wondered if there was something open source/free.

not sure about an open-source one, but netlimiter and du super controler are two of my favorite.

If you build a Smoothwall firewall, then there is a way you can get it to do some QoS throttling. You'll need to read about exactly how to do it in the user forums though. It's a custom deal, not standard with the install.

I am curious my self I did a lot of research and never found a Free program that actually Limit the Bandwidth or and the Volume.

All the free programs in the link provided by dnuggett can monitor log and chart data but would Not intervene with the Traffic.

NetLimiter is very Good and my rule is that if $29 ( which is tha value of five meals of No. 1 combo at your local Fat and cholesterol fast food chain) is too much then it is not really important to do the task.
