Bandwidth limiting

I need a way to limit bandwidth to other computers on my network, or something that prioritizes the bandwidth to my computer without setting up a proxy server on another computer. My DSL is 1.5mbps down and like 110kbps up, which is garbage, but it's all I have because I live in a small town.

Everytime I try to play an FPS, be it Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, etc... if anyone on the network decides to load a webpage I get incredibly bad lag spikes. Like 200-500ms ping for like 10 secs, which really sucks especially if you're in a firefight.

I've also noticed that when my friend brings his computer over, and we both load into the same server, he has a lower ping than I do. I also load webpages slow because his computer is hogging all the bandwidth.

I tried getting a D-Link GamersLounge router but that didn't help at all, so I got rid of it and went back to my Linksys WRT54G.

You can flash the WRT54G with dd-wrt V24 beta, it has QoS options, can even limit bandwidth to the ports on the router.

Hmm, I just flashed it to v24, but it says "WRT54G- Error" as the name of the browser window. Is this a problem?

I guess I should have added that it flashed through fine and everything seems to be working. It just says that "WRT54G- Error" as the browser window name.

Under Status>Wireless it says Error under Radio. And under "Wireless Packet Info" it says:

Transmitted (TX)
794 OK, 1865 errors

Any clue?
