I just don't understand why someone would waste so much time learning a glorified whack a mole game to perfection. The fact that they are making "bands" out of this shit is such a joke. Some of these people might even hold the talent to play a real instrument....but they will never know as long as they continue to spend hours upon hours mastering their fake one.

It a game. You're the one making it out more than it has to be. People play games professionally as well. Let people do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

Actually, RockBand inspired me to learn the real guitar. I'm not very good at RB and I enjoy playing, but there's always a nagging feeling in the back of my head saying, "you could be learning the real guitar right now!" So, I go and practice the real guitar.

The game is called Rockband for a reason. One of the modes is playing online as a full band. I know for example, that I don't have three other people in my house than can play on expert so that is a great place to find others. Doesn't mean that I spend countless hours perfecting songs, just that I'm good enough to play at the highest level. I think you just missed the entire concept of online play and how it relates to this game.

Everyone's ripping on the OP...but I agree with him. Seems like a giant waste of time. Jeez people, go shopping at a mall....go to a movie or something....j/k. But it does seem like a lot of kids are wasting HUGE amounts of time playing video games nowadays. They are getting fat and lazy and never go outside to play anymore.
 
Yeah, what's up with people who want to get together to play video games with other people? What the fuck is wrong with them? NOBODY does that.

i have / had fun playing GH1.

however, trying to get 5 stars on Crazy Train on hard, i decided it would probably be easier to learn it on the real guitar gathering dust in my bedroom.

they are a fun diversion for sure though
 
I thought like this for a while but then I played a few hours of Rock Band after a gaming event with a dozen other drunk people. Best fun I'd had all week.

I agree with this part.

I'm actually not sure how different the drums are from real drums though. I certainly had better luck playing rockband drums with the instructions flying at me then the time I tried to play actual drums...but the mechanics really don't strike me as that different.

The guitar doesn't really seem that close at all and the fact that my horrible singing can still snatch a pass most of the time doesn't bode well there either.
