How do you watch the same show 3/4 times in a row?

Live music is nothing like a TV show, its different every time especially at different venues. Last tour I saw Depeche first at San Jose 3rd row center and then here in LA 3 days later in a box at Staples. Completely different experiences (both were awesome, but 3rd row center did beat the box even if the box came with an open bar!)

the grateful dead, in all incarnations, including ratdog, phil + friends, etc
aerosmith a few times
the black crowes over 3 dozen times
bob dylan
dmb over 2 dozen times

Frank Zappa

How was Zappa?

The first time I saw him VERY boring. It was the tour following the release of Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar and that's pretty much what everyone did, shut up and play. He had a great band, but with almost all extended instrumentals and none of the funny songs that made him famous it was tedious after a while.

The second time was a couple of years later on the Baby Snakes tour. He did all his old classic lyrical songs in that show rather than the long jams and it was excellent.

Ah, I like the extended jam stuff. I would have loved to have seen him live. I need to be in the right mood for Zappa, but when that mood hits, there's nothing better :^)

I'm not a concert buff. The only nationally famous band I've seen live was Flogging Molly. I had a great time. First time in a mosh pit. I got bruised and one of my toenails got all bloody, but it was worth it.

Definitely have to see more live concerts, but they're expensive and I've just never been on top of things enough to keep track of schedules for the hundreds of bands I'd probably enjoy. There isn't one particular band that I'm a huge fan of, just a lot that I like.

I don't dislike the jams, I disliked him doing nothing but the jams. To me the perfect Zappa concert would have been

Something from Joe's Garage
a jam
Titties and Beer
a jam
Bobby Brown
a jam
Don't Eat the Yellow Snow
a jam
More from Joe's Garage
a jam
Broken Hearts are for Assholes
a jam
etc

I only remember the really good ones (Marilyn Manson, The Bellrays, Simon and Garfunkle) and the really bad ones (Radiohead)

Kraftwerk
Ministry
Silversun Pickups
Paul McCartney
Leonard Cohen
The Ting Tings
Crystal Castles
MIA
Paolo Nutini
Joss Stone
Fleet Foxes
Atmosphere
Amanda Palmer
Butthole Surfers
Ben Folds
Fischerspooner
Velvet Revolver
The Village People
Bajofondo
My Bloody Valentine
The Cure
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Public Enemy
Sebastian Tellier
Fucked Up
Murder City Devils
Throbbing Gristle

I'm sure theres some I've left out.

Can't really afford live concerts much 🙁

Depeche Mode (3x)
Tori Amos
Neal Diamond
Eminem
Anger Management Tour
Lollapalooza
