If you haven't played the original COD, then I'd pick it up and the United Offensive expansion pack. I'm not sure about COD2, but the original is probably closest to the Band of Brother series.

The best course of action would be IMHO is to get the entire COD set, they are really great games, though COD2 is a bit short as a whole these games are alot of fun, and the graphics are great.

COD2 deals with United States Rangers not 101st Airborne nor 82nd Airborne...most of the ranger's missions are in the Normandy-Caen area of France during 1944

i would say get the original CoD if you want something more along the lines of the Band of Brothers feel. I think the original CoD did a way better job of immersing you in th game and making you feel like you were there than the 2nd one did. the 2nd one does have its moments where it makes you feel like you're there, just not as much as CoD.

I agree, start with COD1 first :)

would cod run on a geforce 2?

But of course ! I ran it on my laptop with a Geforce 2 Go and it performed acceptably. Vid cards aren't terribly expensive, so if you do need to upgrade, look for a GF4 4200ti or an ATI 9600 Pro. Both will be a significant jump over the GF2 and should run you $50 used.

You want a game that is very similar to BoB? It's not gonna be CoD.

Brothers in Arms. The style is almost based off of Band of Brothers, and it's a great game at that (I find it more fun, if less cinematic, that CoD). Like Azndude2190 said, COD2 is about 1st Infantry Division (hence, Big Red One), not the Airborne.

I wondered about BIA. I played the first one's demo, and liked it quite a bit. Is the rest of the game as good as the demo, or does it trail off and become very repetitive?

COD 1 and the expansion pack "united offensive" are the best games ever. COD 2 is good compared to the first 2

reinstall video drivers. that being said u need a new card...6600gt's are pretty cheap now... cod is definetly closest to band of brothers/saving private ryan. but to really experience it u shouldn't be dropping the grahpics down so low they become ick.

I think having watched Enemy at the Gates would put you into a more suitable mood for CoD2, for the Russian campaign at least.

BIA is a very difficult game tat tries to focus more on tactical problem solving than shooting. In that sense, it's far closer to Full Spectrum Warrior than CoD despite the fact that its a a first person shooter. The game would be a lot easier if the other guys in your squad could hit the broadside of a barn but because their shooting is wildly inaccurate, they're only good for supressing while you sneak around from the side to actually engage the enemy with your own semi-accurate fire.

The game also loses something in the realism category because your squad has unlimited ammunition, something which is just laughable in the context of the opening weeks of the Normandy campaign in which BIA supposedly takes place. In contrast, FSW made a real attempt to model the fact that even modern-day U.S. infantry squads don't have unlimitted ammunition and a decision to suppress must always be balanced against the the fact that you are wasting a fixed and limited resource with no real idea when your next opportunity to resupply will be.

I'll have to agree that the series, BoB, is indeed very good. Can't wait for the series on the Pacific campiagn. But back to the top, both games are quite similar in that
they take place during WWII but also very different in their gameplay. In CoD it's pretty much run and gun, shoot any Germans in sight. Not much tactics are needed,
just find cover, duck and return fire. It is very "arcadish" meaning you'll need to go trigger happy to take down your enemys. Emptying a full clip on an enemy solider is quite the norm. Like some had already mentioned, BIA tries to focus more on the tactical aspect of warfare. One thing you'll quickly notice is that you'll be taking a lot of cover as you'll often be outnumbered. No problem, just order your men to lay down supression fire while you flank the enemy to take them down. The rest is pretty much rinse and repeat. Also both games are heavily scripted and fairly linear usually with only one way to achieve your goals.

Besides their flaws I still highly recommend you picking up CoD and the expansion pack.

Here's another recommendation for COD, its the first shooter I've even played through and I'm on the expansion pack now. Very cinematic sequences during these games, and there are some real adrenaline pounding moments, and it's a great game despite some of the quirks you get due to the scripted nature of the game. Expansion seems a hell of a lot harder than the first game, and in the expansion there are points where the enemies infinitely respawn and you just have to advance, which is irritating but doesn't really hurt the game much to be honest. It also seems like your totally useless squad members from the original are slightly more useful and actually shoot stuff in the expansion instead of quickly and bravely comitting suicide. Some of them also appear to be unkillable, but that may be because I'm on one of the easier difficulty levels. In COD2, they apparently made it so there are no health packs, but instead you regenerate health when behind cover, which I think is a huge mistake. It really takes away the most intense moments in COD, which are win you are down to so little health one hit from anything will kill you, and you've got to find a way to clear out a building or go around a corner not knowing what's there.

Edit: Or find a way to take out a tank before it blows up the wall you're hiding behind.
