i had to google this to even figure out what it is.

apparently it's GH5 but with the most awful song list in the history of music games. bravo, activision, now kill yourselves.

this makes, what, three guitar hero games in two months?

edit- add in greatest hits and metallica and that's five in six months, six in a year. plus dj hero is seven. gimme a fucking break with this trash. christ, i though harmonix was bad with the beatles and lego (which only add up to 2 releases in a year).

Actually, Guitar Hero 5 just game out in September. Band Hero is sort of a re-boot of the franchise... I guess they finally realized that when drums and singing are added in, it's not exactly just "Guitar" hero.

I like Guitar Hero: Van Halen, but only because trying to play Eddie's freaking solos is crazy hard

Band Hero, on the other hand, might make me want to stab myself in the ears.

Crappy songs aside... this game is not good. In an attempt to minimize the amount of things on screen, they reduced the usefulness of it all in favor of making characters more prominent... that's great, but I can't watch while I'm playing the game, so essentially you're making it harder for the people playing the game so the people watching can see more.

It all just "doesn't feel right".

i know about GH5, what i was saying is that (according to what i've read) band hero is supposed to have all the features of GH5 (drop in/out play and such) but with a different setlist and i guess a more 'family friendly' approach. i included both GH5 and band hero in my counts.

Hah, just a testament to how stupid and confusing it all is... especially if you consider the counts don't include Rocks the 80's, Aerosmith, Metallica and now Van Halen. The franchise is dead, AFAIC.

i still like rock band, and sans-lego, i like the way it's been managed (though the DLC is still expensive as hell). i just think GH should've died when harmonix left.

believe it or not, there will always be fans of this genre, so long as you keep feeding them new content. activision has just really been taking it too far with game releases.

Are these guitar hero games still selling well? I would think the fans would have buckled under the pile of horseshit falling on them by now, but most people are willing to endure far more abuse in exchange for money than I am so I don't know.

This is not a reboot of the franchise, this is Activision's attempt to create a "family friendly" game that is essentially a direct competitor to Lego Rock Band. If it will import to GH5 I may be eventually interested, otherwise no.

Has any Guitar Hero game ever allowed you to import the songs from other installments in the series? I don't recall ever hearing about it, but I don't pay that much attention to Guitar Hero. All I know is that GH is more focused on disc-based releases, while Rock Band does mostly DLC. Which, unfortunately, leads to a large amount of disc-swapping with GH.

Also, Band Hero's setlist looks terrible... not sure I'd buy that game unless it was super cheap AND you could import for free.

AFAIK GH5 sold a lot better than RB Beatles, it's selling quite well actually. Personally I like GH5 the best in terms of interface and playing out of all of these band games out now, but RB2's songlist still puts it to shame.

Yes, GH5 allows a half-assed (about 40% of the songs) import from GHWT and GHSH. It is also compatible with most GHWT DLC. It was a step in the right direction, but Rock Band is still beating them on the platform strategy by miles.

OMFG! I just D/Led this POS and cannot believe how shitty this thing is.......its like watching a Hanna Montana 24hr movie fest ala "A Clockwork Orange" forcing your eyes open to see the horrid images and sound onscreen. Please Lord Jejus/Allah/Shiva (enter Deity of choice here) Let Guitar Hero and all of it's bastardized forms DIE!!!!!! 🙂

I think that is the point of Band Hero actually. Guitar Hero caters more to the hard rock/metal side of things while Band Hero will be the family friend, pop rock/Hanna Montana caterer.

Beatles RB and GH5 are completely different games, meant for different people. Plus, GH5 was a full-fledged game, whereas Beatles RB is obviously just songs from the Beatles. If GH5 wasn't outselling Beatles RB, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Activision dropout soon (I'd be willing to bet the numbers aren't that far off anyway).

i just bought beatles rock band.... so i guess im still buying some.

guitar hero 3 ----> rock band 2 ------> beatles

Well, it looks like Band Hero will be exportable, but fear not, Activision is still screwing things up as usual. Just to make things confusing as hell, the export can go in either direction (BH->GH5 or GH5->BH) and depending on which one you pick, you will lose a different set of songs. If you pick the BH->GH5 export, you lose 4 songs (3 Taylor Swift + Maroon 5). In the other direction you lose 16 songs from GH5 (69/85 exportable). So it seems like the BH export to GH5 is a much better idea, but this whole thing is still a mess.

You are right that the numbers aren't that far off, but GH5 is not outselling Beatles RB. They only give us the top 10 so we can't see where GH5 falls on the Wii, or any of the PS3 numbers, but clearly Beatles RB is selling more units.

It appears that the initial reports of what won't export from Band Hero were wrong. It's still 4 songs, but what you actually lose is 3 Disney artists (Aly & AJ, Jesse McCartney and Hilary Duff) and Mr. Roboto by Styx. I can understand that Disney may have odd licensing restrictions, but the Styx one is kind of puzzling. Still a confusing situation, but I think that's actually an improvement over losing Taylor Swift and Maroon 5.
