Bananas

Hmm I bought some Monday, too
I ate one yesterday morning and it was fine
but now I'm not going to eat the last one, it's all nasty and black

everyone likes them different. I like them nice and ripe, brown on the outside and not brown on the inside. my girl likes them more on the yellow/green side.

don't put them in the fridge, they turn brown waaaay faster.

basically...depends on your taste.

They are good until they are too brown for you to eat.

If you are worried go get a banana hook and store them that way, they will last a bunch (lol?) longer.

If you do put them in the fridge, they will last waaaay long than left out. They will be all brown and might not look too good, but will be nice and ripe and perfect.

refrigeration, at least that of the temp of a household fridge, cause them to spoil faster😕

Not from the words of the produce manager from the grocery store where I worked. He told me that once the banana is ripe, it will last much longer in a fridge than at room temp.

I may be wrong but I really don't see where the "once it is ripe" comes into play. Bananas are transported even after "ripening" at above the normal temp for a household fridge for a reason. They will grey and spoil..................

Bananas are not transported ripe. They are transported extremely green and not ready for consumption yet. I'm sure you could eat them green like that, but they would be very hard and taste really bad. They are ripe when they are a nice golden yellow with speckles of brown in the skin, and once they are at that stage, they will last longer in a fridge, than out on the counter.

What country are you from 🙂

Here in the states, California to be exact, they are placed out for people to buy as soon as they arrive at the store, green as grass. People are just expect to know to let them ripen a bit before they eat em.

We never used anything like that. I worked at a grocery store for 3 years and we always got the bananas super green, and put them out that way. I dont know where that coastpro place buys their bananas but our chain got them from Dole.

What you don't understand is that bananas going through a ripening room does not mean they won't get to you "super green". Dole uses ripening rooms. It isn't that hard to google. Of course you never used anything like that.....you worked in a fvcking grocery store....

It seems that there are conflicting theories as to whether refrigeration (home temps) will prolong the life of bananas all of which depend on the initial stage of ripeness.....................

Of course they are. Good for you though? Probably not as they lost all of their potassium.

potassium is a mineral. where does it go to? it can't just evaporate. as long as they aren't turning brown or moldy, I say they are fine to eat.

theyre good until you cant hold them in one piece anymore

but if you get them on the first day of that, theyre perfect for banana bread 🙂

Bananas are actually sweetest when they turn fully brown. Most people eat them when they start to get spots on them though.

They'll last about a week or so. Make banana bread out of them if they get too brown for you 🙂
