Baltimore isn't that bad. You need to know exactly where you are though, and you need to keep your eyes open. Neighborhoods change fast. It doesn't take much of a walk to go from perfectly fine to "You really need to gtfo now".
It's a mosaic. You can be in Bolton Hill, which has high property values, and just a few miles away, the prices drop rapidly. The areas close to Hopkins attract a well-behaved crowd for obvious reasons. Some places are lawyer-central.

A real estate acquaintance of my mom actually bought a rowhouse for $17,500 in the Rosemont neighborhood(a pretty bad one as reflected in the property value) because it was super cheap and tried renting it. That person still own it and the acquaintance does not tell about how business is going, but she experienced some of that "tenant savvy" you get in Baltimore. One bad incident was apparently some tenant that said they moved out but then made representation to police that they were illegally locked out. The cops were more than happy to kick down the door.
The other involved my mother and I being directly involed for a brief moment, because the acquaintance was out of the country and needed someone to be present for the sheriff for an eviction. Acquaintance filed for eviction but filled out the form wrong by not putting a room number/letter in the proper address field of the failure to pay rent form(she put it below). So, the sheriff called off the eviction and we had to drive to the courthouse to help refile the paperwork for acquaintance. Acquaintance did repay the fees but what a waste of time.

As an aside, this acquaintance did make an appeal to the Court of Special Appeals regarding what happened during a eminent domain/condemnation matter for a different property she owned in Baltimore, with her prevailing over the city. This of course means that it is forever preserved until the paperwork is returned to nature and you can see the decision on the likes of Casetext.

Unlike the acquaintance, neither my mom nor I have any interest in doing that kind of investment property business....got spooked out of that city.

Although straw purchases in other states are an issue, the proliferation of diy gun kits has been a big issue leading to widening crime in the city.

The greatest issue I see is the lax enforcement of the law. The majority of crime is committed by juveniles who are arrested and then released right back to their parent who is unable to control them.
Ha. You are downplaying the role of gun smuggling to the relatively newer phenomenon of diy guns?

Funny. There is literally a nickname for the I95 smuggling of guns, from regressive southern states to further north cities. It's called the iron pipeline. And they come from regressive states like SC full of regressives like highland who continue to promote the bullshit argument that gun free laws are useless without taking into account the fact that guns are easily smuggled from states who care so little about gun violence they sell them like candy. They use ignorant arguments like he does to basically mock any attempt at reducing gun violence. Statements that they know are false but just do not care about reality. Just not very good people who take those positions using tired false statements like he does. They mock gun violence with their bullshit and pretend to give a shit. Anybody who continues to spout such an already debunked premise that has been pointed out to them, well, I'll tell you, they aren't sending their best.

The iron pipeline ladies and gentlemen.

This just proves we need more guns, not fewer. IMO.

Brilliant idea. In the first world country with the worst gun violence by a million miles, the solution is to just have more guns and make them even easier to get with even fewer restrictions.

Hey if your house starts burning down, my advise is to throw more gas on it.

Similar logic.

This thread has gotten way to political it seems, so I will stop there. Though my feelings are mixed, I would rather not get into it.

Well when someone posts tired old misinformation about gun control laws without taking it to account the reality that exists which they have been told before, which at this point is just making a mockery of gun violence and those honestly trying to reduce it, I will always respond.

I also find it disturbing that people think the answer to the horrific gun violence in this country made possible by guns having so few restrictions in so many states is to have more guns more available.
