If developing countries can't pirate windows they will turn to Linux & programs like open office. Piracy is THE ONLY reason why microsoft is the standard in those markets & the few sales they make there result from this fact. The strong dollar and the high prices they charge make it impossible for it to be the legal standard in the 3rd world. Microsoft acknowledged this with their release of a stripped down version of vista for the developing world, but that thing is next to worthless, so I doubt it will be adopted over piracy.

I switched to Linux, sorry Steve Balmer, Vista isn't worth putting the effort into pirating. I got a copy of vista for free through school that I finally got around to installing on a computer last week, tried using it for a while, seems that file sharing is even more broken than it is in XP, and it runs a lot slower.... Well anyways it was uninstalled before activation was required so no big deal..

Either way, people aren't stupid. If nothing is wrong with XP, why would they be in a hurry to drop a few hundred dollars on Vista? Also, anyone on PCs for a length of time has also learned that its a good idea to wait a few months before buying any MS OS.

The one and only time I bought a Microsoft OS within a few days of it coming out was the release of Windows 98 and that was only because Windows 95 was such a complete and utter POS. I stuck with Windows 98SE until upgrading to XP which is what I run on all my machines now. I think I waited a few weeks before upgrading to XP after it was released.

Edit-I almost went with NT at one point but stuck it out until XP came out. ME was another POS Microsoft OS that I would never bother with. I think that OS was worse than Win95.
