Mentioning because the prices is extra low, for me at least.

They show sale prices of $4.99 and $7.99, but when I go to the product page, the price for each changes to $2.99, not sure why.

Also Icewind Dale enchanced for $2.99.

There's a new BG expansion for the enhanced edition, likely a release sale.

this bit from that article made me go WTF?

“It was a big challenge because all of the Baldur’s Gate original assets like the 3D models that make up these sprites, the 3D models for the levels in the original game, these archives were lost,” explained Beamdog lead designer Phillip Daigle during a recent interview at an event in San Francisco. “There was a data tape in some guy’s garage, and it flooded, and it was gone. There goes the history of Baldur’s Gate. That’s the case with a lot of classic games. There was a single archive, it was in some guy’s basement and sorry, the disc rotted, and it’s gone now.”

only 1 backup? REALLY? I mean I get only having 1 backup for pictures of your dogs and food and shit, but a multi-million dollar game? WTF

I think if you already own the legacy editions, the EE are $2.99 because it changed to that once I logged in to GoG.

Yep.
You can now pick up Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition at -75%, or Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition at 60% off. And if you own the original games already, you can get all three Enhanced Editions at 85% off - the discount will be applied during checkout.

So the question is, is it really worth picking up the EE if you already own the originals?

Speaking of Baldur's Gate (2) EE, something odd happened the other day.

I've been playing it over the past several months. Currently in Chapter 7 and nearing the end.
The other day, STEAM downloads a pretty big "Update" for it.

Upon starting the game, it looks like many of the menus have changed, many of the interface options and buttons totally moved or reworked, and most noticeably, the actual character sprites have been completely redone to be almost brighter, more like a mobile game. I'm not sure how I feel about it honestly, luckily I don't get too hung up on visuals anymore.

Is this the new "expansion" thing you guys are talking about?

The dark black outline makes the characters look cell shaded.

That's terrible. Hope that's a bug

I don't think it's a bug. I bought BGEE for $5.00 on Steam and started playing it Thursday night. And the characters looked like the second picture. My kid has owned it for several years and when he played it before, the characters did NOT look like that.

Something changed. Not sure I'm happy about that (or the fact I could have gotten this cheaper at GOG).

Definitely not a bug; looking like this is part of the planned update for the game.:\

I guess I should check out Beamdog's forums for more info, but I'm nearly done with the game anyway.
Doesn't look like the same happened with Icewind Dale EE yet, and that's what I plan on playing next.

Confirmed - it's not a bug. Beamdog pateche BG:EE and BG:EE2 with a huge UI overhaul (2.0) patch.

Still researching all of the changes.

But I refunded my $5.00 purchase of BG:EE at Steam and will buy at GOG for $2.99 (I forgot I have both BG and BG2 on GOG...so getting both EE for $2.99 is a sweet deal....thanks Craig234 for this thread making me aware of the deal!)

Siege of Dragonspear, and according to the reviews so far its pretty good. The new character graphics might take some time to get used to.

Uh, no. Maybe actually read stuff online.

Thy panties, Sir Dilbert! Unbunch them forthwith!

I meant part of the new expansion, as in included with it, since it just updated and appeared unannounced.

So getting the EE is worth it if you already have the originals?

So say that instead of what you said? I can't infer tone of voice, which makes assumptions very difficult, and usually wrong.

Probably not.

The biggest changes I can see are interface related. Much of the UI, including m,aps, character details, leveling, quest logs, etc, have been TOTALLY reworked.
Many of them (especially the map screen changes) are made much more helpful and clear. It really is a near-total rework and redesign.

Obviously the new character graphics take some getting used to, and I can see some folks hating them right off the bat merely on principle.

Here's a few quick screens of examples of some of the changes:

I think that was me. There's a fine line between staying true to the original and enhancing the content and I think they crossed it with this latest patch (changing the character sprites).

However, then I think about what a royal pain in the ass it was to patch the original versions to get them to run on modern computers (patch for blue water has to come last after patch for larger font, but before the patch that increased arrow/dart counts in inventory, etc., etc....who the hell has time for that?)

In short: I'll get used to it.

You must buy / own the old versions from GoG to get the discount on the EE versions.
