Ok, here is a question out of the blue. If I create a custom party in Baldur's Gate MP mode, then convert than game to SP mode by doing the autosave file copy from mpsave to save, will all of those characters be available for import into Baldur' Gate 2?

The official page says that all characters created in multiplayer can be imported, but it doesn't specify if the save still needs to be a multiplayer save or if they will exist properly in a single player one.

I know its a strange question. I just don't want to convert my savegame from mp to sp if I will have problems when I'm ready to play BG2.

the mulitplayer mode is identical to SP mode. you can just play MP with all of your custom party characters.

but as i recall, you can export/import your MP characters to SP as well.

Thanks I'll probably end up doing that. I read that there are some differences in the game play between the two, such as in mp pausing is allowed in inventory. The biggest avoidable thing seemed to be waiting for the game as it dealt with the network. I'm in the process of deciding how to build my party so I haven't actually tried the mp side yet.

Yes, you can also use them as import characters. Its clunky compared to NWN and NWN 2's system, but those games only let you import your main character. I like BG2 cuz you can use a whole party of custom's.

REMEMBER: Many quests in the game require a certain NPC though, so make sure you grab each one of them at some point and activate their quests.

The companions in Baldurs Gate 2 were probably the best in any video game ever made.
They had real backgrounds and stories, their current situation actually mattered, and they each got some pretty darn good interactions too. Plus, most of them broke out of the stereotypes set by D&D lore. The evil dwarf who loved hurting people, the bitter old paladin with an adulterous wife, angry young cleric who cant get along with his father, the noble halfling warrior, the drow who didnt like being among her own kind, the ranger with a family history of evil magic, an extra-planar bard with a hardon for human women, it was good stuff all around.
