A few months ago I saw someone on here talking about the best mods for BG1 and BG2. I've search for that thread (or any thread with BG in it) and I keep getting timed out.

Can someone point me to where the best mods for BG1 and BG2 are?

I've never modded a game before. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Thanks!

A search of the internets has lead me to the TutuBG mod (which seems to be pretty popular) and the BG Trilogy mod (which combines all the games together into one seamless game). That's appealing.

Anyone care to share experiences with either of these mods?

Tutu is probably the best. it lets you play BG1 in BG2's superior engine.

Also, the big Fix Pack that lets you pick exactly what kind of stuff you wanna use is great. Install it AFTER tutu and it will work on both games.
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! And backup your saved games in case you have to wipe it all out and reinstall.
Oh, and same thing for the big Tweak Pack. Install afterwards, and only use what you want.

Infinite stacks of arrows and scrolls is AWESOME!

Thanks everyone! I feel stupid. I bought BG1 and BG2 from GoG and never even thought about looking in their community for modding advice.

Mmm... I haven't play BG1 in ages. Sounds fun.

Now, just as soon as I blow through LAST YEARS glut of steam games... Much less this year! :)

Installed it all about 4 weeks ago and played a little bit. But then the Steam sales starting coming fast and furious and I've been stuck on other things.

As stated, TuTu is really a must. I haven't played the Trilogy pack so can't speak to that, but TuTu allows you not only to play on a superiour graphics engine, it also allows you to play with all of the classes in BG2.

Also look for "Unfinished Business" mod. it rounds out quite a lot of the stuff that was either broken or just plain not finished.

Another thing. Make sure that you play the heck out of BG1 and then carry your character over to BG2. that way you can make use of the extra EXP and all of the tomes that are scattered around BG1.

And do some research on some of the things you can carry over from one game to the next. There are several artifacts that you find in BG1 that are actually quite useful well into BG2.

Finally, make sure that ToB is installed and go into the "Extra" castle as soon as you are able. Even if you can't make it very far, they have unlimited arrows and bolts packs for sale and to be found in the early levels. Of course play all the way down to the secret toy surprise at the bottom, but you may have to hold that off till later. The initial foray is really worth it early though.

In addition to nice goodies, Watcher Keep has most of its challenges based on your level. If you visit it early you will set the flags for low-level and most creatures & traps are easier. Of course they will also be worth slightly less XP, but you'll get so much its not worth sweating over.

I've been researching this.....a little bit anyway. It sounds to me like the Trilogy mod allows you to play BG1 and expansions on the BG2 engine. It also includes unfinished business mods and bug fixes. It also includes one cut-scene that ties BG1 to BG2 seamlessly.

Now, normally I'm a tradionalist. But I've already played the original BG1 (and won) about 10 years ago. If all they've added is just one cut-scene to tie the two games together, I'd be ok with that.

Must do more research.

Having said all that, TuTu sounds fantastic as well (and more flexible in that you can pick and choose mods).
