Baldness

genetics. my great grandpa was bald....his son was bald....and his son was bald....so....oh wait.....ah crap.....

At some point in history, a gene probably mutated and produced the baldness factor, which was then spread through the population of Earth.
 
Baldness is inherited from your mom's side. So if your grandpa (mom's side) is bald, if you are a male, chances are you will also be bald!
 
Hormones can play a role too, can't they? I thought I remember reading that bald men have higher testosterone levels

Yup, unfortunately. Ack, 19 and my hair is already getting thin. They said my grandpa (on my mom's side) did the same thing.

How does that work? Regardless of what side his grandpa is on it wouldn't matter. It's inherited from women, men don't affect it at all.
 
I remember hearing a little bit ago that the grandpa on mother's side thing was just a myth. Don't know which is true and I'm too lazy to look it up

What I am saying is if men on your mother's side are bald, then chances are you will be bald.
 
Baldness is a sex linked recessive gene on the X chromosome. Since you are male, you can only get it from your mother because your will receive the Y chromosome from your father. It's rare in women because they have 2 X chromosomes and since it is recessive both have to carry it in order for the phenotype to show. It does make sense that if most men on your mom's side is bald then you will too, because more than likely your mom will be a carrier of the gene. However, it's not necessarily guaranteed, since it's basically a 50/50 chance.

Now if your mom uses Rogaine for Women, then you know you're screwed.
 
Well, I can tell ya that my grandpa on my Mom's side of the family was bald, but on my Dad's side of the family there isn't really a pattern of baldness. I will be 42 tomorrow and my hairline hasn't changed since I was born and it's all still there on the crown. My Pops just turned 70 last week and has just a small bald spot on the top of his head. You figure it out.

Oh, whatever happened to those remedies like the advertised hair growth hormone? 😱 I'm scared any sons I have would be bald too in all likelihood since it's hereditary. Hahahaha! I actually think baldness is cute. What I don't like is partial baldness.
