So Ramadan is going to be tomorrow, and this means that sun up to sun down I can't eat or drink. This is going to be around 6AM to 7:30ish at the moment (rough estimates +/- 30 minutes?)

I'm still exerscising, and want to continue to exersicse. About 1 hour during lunch. I'm also on a 'fitness' team, and need to keep up activity to a certain level

Now what i'm worried about is my body going into starvation mode and then me losing muscle, but not fat.

For sure I will wake up to eat before the sun rises because I know at the very least I'll need two meals in 24 hours. Typically I just do dinner, but this time its different ;)

Anyways I'm planning on taking 50 grams of protein per meal just in the gold standard powder. For breakfast I'm probably goign to do my typical cereal/milk + fruit. Should I be looking at something else?

I know that it isn't healthy to exerscise without replenishing fluids throughout the day, so I will be dropping my intensity quite a bit. However, I do need to keep at it.

Are thre any suggestions for certain foods that I should include, or will I simply end up losing more muscle than fat this month?

thanks everyone

Having a grapefruit with breakfast should help suppress appetite throughout the day. Also bananas and yogurt are good, the latter for probiotics. Add some nuts like almonds that will take a while to digest to sustain you after you've eaten.

You should be fine early in the day, expect headaches and/or lightheadedness starting in the afternoon and evening. I would be very careful exercising at 1PM and would say don't even do it by 6.

But in my experience, you should be fine if you get some food that day. It's after you go a full day without food you really notice the effects of starvation mode like lightheadedness.

Lol I'm not too worried about not being able to do it.

I used to eat no meal, and then at 6PM have a crazy 3 hour workout in Wrestling where we leave soaking wet, and then i'd only eat/drink afterwards. Fasting isn't something new to me, but this time I want to prevent a metabolism crash and minimize the amount of muscle that i'm going to lose relative to fat and thought if there were any foods that 'released slow' to keep the body from going to the muscles

my workouts will probably be around 11am

If you can't eat or drink anything, your metabolism will crash. I know juices and spices you can take instead of food that boost metabolism, but that won't work for you.

Nuts or maybe chia seeds, things that digest slowly, are your best bet.

Cereal won't be your friend while fasting, nor will protein shakes. You need something that will fill you up and the sugary emptiness of cereal won't help with that. Protein shakes don't have any real substance. Sure, they have calories, but they don't have a great effect on satiety. In order to fix this, eat something higher in fat and protein for breakfast - eggs, meat, oatmeal, fruit for good measure, milk, etc - and always eat your calories (don't try to drink most of them). I'd really pack the calories in if I could since the meals are so rare. You're going to want to eat things high in fat, high in protein, and high in fiber. These all slow digestion, make the food stay in your stomach longer, and really get the satiety hormones into gear. If you can, I'd suggest throwing some nuts or seeds (almonds, peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds) early on 'cause they don't feel very filling, but really keep hunger at bay. I personally don't think a fluid fast is healthy at all and science would definitely agree. However, if you're gonna do it, I'd try to take in a little extra salt to retain some extra water throughout the day. Good luck though.

Eat meat. Lots of meat. I remember doing a buffet once where I ate meat exclusively. This was at 12 noon. I didn't eat(or feel hungry) till 12 noon the next day!

The next week, went to the same buffet but mixed it up and had an even starch to meat ratio. I was eating at 6pm the same day -_-

Well, the problem with stressing meat alone is constipation. Yeah, meat's good, but you definitely need more.

SC's right about cereal and protein shakes, but consider this...if you're in a hurry, you could eat your cereal with a protein shake as the milk. Assuming you're eating Cheerios or Shredded Wheat or something. If you eat Count Chocula while fasting 12 hours a day, we will all show up at your doorstep at 2am with duct tape, a bullhorn, a funnel, and fifty eggs. Maybe a Britney Spears CD for if you get sassy.

Not that in a hurry. Breakfast would have been that fruits, bread, eggs protein shake.

Dinner would be any healthy option where I was and protein shake before I sleep.

But after all this I had to fuck up and totally miss waking up at the right time LOL
