bake your own bread?

Buy a breadmaker. I don't have one, but my parents do. Makes awesome banana nut bread, and makes excellent pizza dough too.

I do. I have a recipe book from my Grandfather who was an avid baker (he did this in his spare time, he was VP of a muffler company by day). I really only bake a few types of bread though. Christmas bread and Swedish Rye bread. The take some time to prepare though so I usually plan it as an all day event. Pounding out dough and letting it rise...very time consuming.

I've never used a bread machine...don't own one.

Edit-I make banana bread also but that doesn't take more than 1/2 hour. I make my own pizza dough also. In fact, I feel like pizza tonight. 😉

i bake, no bread machine...not even a stand mixer to do my kneading :/ takes a feckin long time for some stuff, but its worth it.

homemade brioche is fantastic. i do pizza dough, quickbreads like biscuits and cornbread, and even french bread pretty often.

I use my breadmachine to cook popcorn. Takes about 4 hours but it's the best popcorn you've ever tasted. 😉

Sometimes aye. My family makes the paste and bakes the bread in the oven. The results look somewhat like this and are eaten mostly on sundays.

I have a stand mixer. Makes kneading high-gluten bread dough much much easier. A programmable breadmaker is probably more convenient if you're only looking to make bread and/or pizza dough. Breadmakers are cheaper, too.

I like the frozen bread at Krogers that you unfreeze and let rise, then stick it in the oven for 20-30 minutes. Great stuff.

We don't have one yet, but come Christmas time, I'm going to my girlfriend and I one for our new apartment. I absolutely *LOVE* the smell of the break being made and baked. I like bread the most when it's kinda hard on the outside and soft/chewy on the inside. Nummay!

My dad makes great stuff. In fact my black and decker bread maker makes some bad ass bread, but I had to go cold turkey on it about four years ago because I would bake a loaf and eat the whole damn thing, like a crack addict at a crack-buffet. It was so good that I was just packing on weight. I love bread more than you can imagine but I don't allow myself to eat it much 🙁

Any links to good recipes? I am looking for a good rye or wheat. I already have a pretty good white.

What I would really like to find is how to make good chewy pizzza dough. All the ones that I've tried come out more bread like than pizza-shop like (which is ok, but I would really like some good chewy stuff).

Seems to taste better. More $$ and time consuming.

Helps keep the place smelling nicer.

One of the tricks is to not make a 100% whole wheat loaf, use a 50/50 mix with regular flour, another is to use honey or molasses (1:1 replacement for white sugar), and don't forget to use gluten...

Click on the link I already posted, I've had good luck with their recipies😀 (It's Fleischman's yeast's website)
