This interview involved changing some of the paintings in City Hall in NYC (I believe) because they had George Washington and other founding fathers on them (who were slave owners).

I can't link directly to the video, but go to the O-Factor website here and click on the text that says To watch this segment click here under "Rewriting History: A Rebuttal". It is somewhat lengthy, but some of the best stuff is at the end so be patient. :D

By the way, for the O'Reilly haters who I am sure will have something meaningful to contribute to this thread, thanks for the free bump. :D

<< Many are trying to ban the Confederate flag saying it represents slavery. However, according to this guy the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery (so neither should the Confederate flag). >>

HE's RIGHT!

The civil war was fought mainly over socio-economic differences between the north and south. The southern States beleived in a smaller Federal Government and more state control. Slavery was NOT THE REASON FOR THE CIVIL WAR, (a few slave states did not ceede the union.)

I saw the show too and the guy did kinda take Bill off guard but give me a break the guy didn't have a clue about reality. Sure Washington may have held slaves, but you can't compare people's moral's and beliefs now to people who lived 200 hundred years ago. it was a differen't time, and a different world. But if he had never lived and never stood up to Great Britan who knows what the U.S. would be like our if it would even exist. and for that we must respect him and honor him as a hero. That guy really disgusted me.

Yeah I know, I generalized a bit too much though so I just killed that reply. If that's truly what he believes his argument is just different than many others. As such, I'm sure he has no problem with the flag being placed at Civil War landmarks, memorials, etc.

<<BARRON: We're going to tell you we're not going nowhere, we're staying right here, and we're going to say George Washington was not the hero you thought he was, because he sold his slaves for molasses, owned 200 of them. Thomas Jefferson was not the hero you thought he was...>>
We have the Washington Monument and the Jefferson memorial to commemorate those founding fathers as heroes. Should we just tear those down? It sounds like that's what he wants to do.

I saw this interview on TV when it first aired, and I must say, he and O'Reilly set off some fireworks. The guy basically compared George Washinton and his slave owning to Hilter's holocaust.

Ridiculous.

Why should this idiot surprise you? Because of free society, our culture invites morons like this to exist. Our soldiers fight/have fought to let people like this speak as they wish. That is why we are Americans. Do intelligent people agree with guy? Hell no.
Do intelligent people agree this guy has a right to say and believe whatever he wants? Yep.
As long as we act/do like Howard Cosell "....and tell it like it is ...." and stay away from Revisionism, we will continue to prosper as a nation.

You can't blame people for their belief hundred of years ago. It was a different time, and different things were considered acceptable then both morally and legally.

He doesn't surprise me at all, actually. I just thought the clash of two very strongly opinionated persons was very amusing. ;)

Spoiler below (much funnier if you see it on the vid because of their tone of voice...

When the guy said "Don't EVER compare George Washington to Malcolm X" and Bill replied "I would NEVER do that" I was literally about to fall out my chair I was laughing so hard.

The American Revolution was only 100 years ago???

With that kind of dating, I'm only 16 years old. :)

That WAS funny! :D

I thought it was funny O'Reilly didn't mention the paper Washington wrote against slavery after he was in office.

This guy was scary in his bias. He wanted to dismiss Malcom X's statements and only focus on Washington even though X was CLEARLY closer to today's society than Washington but had the same racial hangups.

And how he so easily dismissed the Africans who help round up the Africans that were brought to the US and only blammed the white men who brought them over was also unreal.

This guy IMO is a racist and will continue to be a racist. O'Reilly's best line was saying "I just think you are really hurting young back kids watching this"

And he's right.

That guy is blatantly a racist and O'Reilly is true in saying that he does more harm for black kids. He is basically making excuses for their short-comings and being a general a-hole for trying to revise history in order to make more white guilt excuses.

I have a lot of black friends, and not one of them has a racist bone in their body, and they are very well off and very happy. Compare that to some racist blacks I know and those guys sit there and make excuses for their laziness or other shortcomings by blaming it on something that happened 200 years ago that has no bearing on what happens today. They always tend to blame it on someone else instead of resolving the problem themselves.

By having this guy running around saying this crap, he just gives minorities an excuse by blaming it all on slavery or ill-percieved racism.
