Running @ 1280x1024, settings to HIGH (not HIGHEST). I don't wanna turn off the eye candy, that's why I play these games. :)

Well I'm glad to hear the P5 is not right around the corner like I thought, it makes me feel better about upgrading.

Turn the resolution down to likw 1152x864 or somethign like that, then turn some of the things down to medium. That should hold you over until the next wave of video cards comes out. Though you can get a 9800 pro for around $200 now so you might want to consider that option as well, or look at 5900s. Personally I would download the coolbits hack and overclock the video card as high as it could go, and overclock my cpu...

I say turn the res down, that should bump up your fps right away. You don't have to remove all the eye candy, just think about the things you don't notice in the game, and turn down those settings indvidually (if you can do that, havn't played that game). Based on your card and cpu, I would say wait on the upgrade path. Maybe cleanup the registry and remove any old drivers or software that are clogging up the system. But I know you should be able to get more than 12 if you just lower the res. a little.

1.9Ghz P4? I'll bet that's the problem. Probably a 256kb chip which= celeron.
Stll running sdram on the motherboard? That would be the other problem.
A bandwidth, cache starved system.

Try getting a 1700+ and o/c it and and nforce2 board + 512 of ddr.
Cost you about $170 on the fs forum.

Yeah....not too long ago Anand said don't buy a new video card until June. He couldn't say anymore (non-disclosure). Who knows maybe the new ATI / Nvidia mid-range cards will perform better than the current high end cards. The Nvidia cards are also supposed to have support for PS 3.0 (there will probably only be 2 games that support 3.0 by Christmas.. just read this).

How about going the Athlon64 route? You can be priced just as competitively and get better or equal preformance

And Secondly, I think the new video cards this Spring will run the new graphic engines like a dream for the next 12-18 months. That's my only concern, but if you have a motherboard with a 4x/8x AGP slot that can support any northwood core, you can easily upgrade to the newer graphic cards.

My next upgrade (which is going to be one the house :D) is going to be my last one for ATX. After that, gotta go to an all-BTX system.
