I may have slept on my shoulder wrong and woke up with a minor ache on my left shoulder yesterday and aggravated it at the gym. I think I strained my AC joint again. I've injured this side of my shoulder a few times[never the right side - underlying issue?]. It's never serious though[always goes away in about a week]... and neither is this time but I can't raise my arms overhead or reach towards my back or my right side without hurting which suck since it means I can't do several of my lifts. Putting clothes on is a pain:(

Anyone had this injury know the dos and don'ts? Maybe I should just take a week off? I think this is a common injury.

Out of the question:
Overhead presses
Pull ups (substitute rows?)

Questionable:
Bench presses - minor twinge with the motion
Deadlifts - a bit of pressure but no pain

Doable:
Squats - May have to do assisted/machines since I shouldn't raise my arms up to hold barbell

I separated my shoulder back in January. That means that I completely tore 2 out of the 3 ligaments that hold the AC joint together. I was out of it for a good 3 months or more. If I were you I would take at least two weeks off. There isn't much penalty for taking too much time off, but the penalties for taking too little time can be pretty severe. That's the way I look at it.
