Bah, I can get about $7K off a GM vehicle but there isn't a decent one

So I'm still on the old GM card plan, 5% on purchases and no limit on how much I get back on a GM car. Plus I get an EDS discount, which is a big whopper, depending on the vehicle. I have about $2,500 on the GM card built up, and estimate $4K+ off with the EDS discount.

The only two cars I really like are the Tahoe and the Corvette, both are way too expensive :(

The car offerings are crap, no V8s, wtf? What the hell is an Impala SS or a Monte Carlo SS? Super Slow? V6 and SS don't mix.

Grand Prix would be ok maybe. Just sucks to piss away several thousand bucks because they have 2 freaking vehicles out of 40 or so that are worth a damn, and those are more than I want to spend. Unless of course I could get a Tahoe or a Corvette for under $25K :D

Your card won't work on some new but not sold, TransAms / Z28s?

I thought about that, maybe even a Caddy CTS. Then I looked at the depreciation on the CTS. WTF?

70% pissed away after 5 years.

How can you tell the depreciation on a model that has only been around for approximately a year?

The problem with this is he'd be hard pressed to make much of a profit, because it's used.

Here's an example. I used the base model Chevy Malibu.

For a used 2002 malibu with 50 miles (not unheard of for a new car), the Kelly Blue Book is $11950

Retail on a 2002 malibu is $18730, that's retail with destination.

Assuming he gets his $6500 discount, that makes the new one 12200.

He could actually LOSE money reselling it.

Chevy's have pretty poor resale value. I'd look into a Saturn (killer resale value I've heard, but expensive to fix if something breaks). Maybe an AWD Vue, I've seen them around and they don't look half bad.

Don't think that'd be possible. It'd lose a good chunk of the savings as soon as I drove it off the lot.

Just based on the depreciation tables on it. It could be better than predicted I suppose. I remember my mom's Caddy was worthless when she sold it after about 3 years :|

I bet you could get a brand new left-over Daewoo for FREE!

Just kidding.

How about waiting for the GTO?

Maybe a Trailblazer, Envoy, or Bravada.

(Do you think that "canceling" of Oldsmobile was just a ploy to increase sales? Oldsmobile has been doing pretty well since that announcement. So well that they pushed the last year from 2003 to 2007. Hmmmm. . . They should have canceled Saturn. What a waste of a successful launch. They showed promise in 1991, but folks, you don't battle Honda and Toyota by waiting 12 years to make a major update to your product!)

Saturns do not have good resale value. A $3-4 grand trade-in for a 98 with 60,000 is not what I would call killer.

A Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic would be $2-3 grand more.

got my prizm for 1/3 off..$3000 factory cash, $2750 GM card, $750 dealer incentive = $6500

invoice = ~18.5k w/tags/tax/etc

damn..add another $4k and it would be $8k for what is a Toyota Corolla!

too bad they dont make it anymore. 2002 prizm = last

they now make the vibe, which is the toyota matrix. u might want to try that

nope..because of all the 0% deals the manufacturers offered in the past couple of years, the used car market is depressed.

ie: my 2002 prizm was $18k invoice. a year later, it's $9k on a used car lot. ($8k private sale, $7k trade-in)

50%+ depreciation on a car that's basically a toyota Corolla! :Q
