I'm already on Court Supervision for doing 44 in a 35 while driving through E. St. Louis.

A few days ago, I got a ticket for doing 86 in a 65. $95 fine.

I called my lawyer, and he's charging $200+ fine to get me out of it. Total = $295.

Says it will never go on my record, and he guarantees it.

He's gotten me out of messes before, as well as friends who had worse and walked away clean. So I know he gets results. He also has the closest law office next to the court house, and knows everybody there.

I guess its better than just paying the fine and getting the marks on my driving record. Not to mention, if I took care of this myself, I'd have to go to court, so gas money ($10-$15) plus time off work (4 hours = $100). So if I took care of this myself, risking them still putting it on my record, I'd only save about $100.

I don't even live in that state anymore, so I don't drive there much.

Meh...

$95 for 21 over on the interstate? Where is that? You'd be looking at $350 here...

Illinois.

I know in Missouri, where I live now, I'd be looking at like $400 in fines alone.

And I was passing a guy that was drifting out of his lane. I was doing closer to 70, when the guy started to veer over in my lane (not dramatically but enough for concern). After a few times of him veering over, I just screw it, and punched it to get around him. As I was going around him, cop got me on radar.

bahhhhhh

cop said " could have just slowed down and passed behind him, what would happen if you blew out a tire?"

You paid that? LOL. There isnt a judge around my county that would let a 3mph over limit charge stand. Hell, you have to be going 6-7 over to even get a second glance by a cop.

I guess not.. im actually lucky, because I know I was closer to 100mph but had already started braking. cop caught me at 86.

I wasn't cruising at 100mph, i had floored it to pass someone that was driving erradically.

I fought the ticket and fucking lost. God I hate California, even though every passing day I want to move back home.

You fight it by going to court?

I got out of doing 54 in a 35 (in CA) by doing a trial by written declaration, and will go that route for every future ticket. If you lose, you can request for a new trial. My brother did it after me and had won as well.

I hate speeding tickets. It's a free country, we should be allowed to drive as fast as we'd like to.

I don't feel the slightest bit of sympathy, nor do I feel like villifying the OP. You sped, you knew the consequences, you were caught. I speed, I have yet to be caught, owing primarily to luck (I was doing 20 over a few weeks ago when I rounded a corner to see a cop radaring me... yet somehow, he let me drive on). Don't complain when you get caught for breaking a law you knew existed and I won't give you shit for breaking a law that I break too.

Yeah, there's an intelligent viewpoint. You be sure to make that argument when some idiot decides going 100 MPH on the highway is a good idea, blows out a tire because it's not rated, loses control and flies into your lane and kills you.

Or some genius who decides to go 60 around a curve, floats into your lane, and kills you.

Speed limits are artificially low in a lot of places, I'll grant that, but getting rid of them entirely is an unbelievably stupid thing to do.

Hopefully into a retaining wall, so you don't fuck up somebody else's life. There's a time and a place for speeding, it's called weekends at the racetrack.

I'm ok with speed limits but hate it when it's not optimized for traffic but for county profits. It sucks to be driving on a 45mph road that drops to 30 for a stretch where they put up their speed traps. On highways 75 mph should be fine, as long as someone isn't weaving through traffic.

That was the argument the cop made to me when he pulled me over.

I drive a car that can handle the speeds (bmw z4) and i have the rated tires, but he still said, shit happens, you could blow out a tire and lose control.

The car itself glides down the interstate at 130 without vibration or any feelings of instabilility. But I've only driven that fast a few select times (got up to 165 once) and its only for a brief moment, on the interstate, in the middle lane, with no traffic around me.
