Just a communal rant.. It's been several weeks now since the X2 started showing up, but the 4400 is still very hard to get and selling for well over list price. Didn't AMD know that
like 90% of users would be going for this processor over the others? It's sad that they haven't made supply available to match what was _obviously_ going to be the demand.

Uh...

Perhaps you should go buy a Pentium D 840 then if you're so unhappy.

If you really thought the CPUs would be at MSRP with mass amounts of stock right away...well then, you haven't paid much attention to how the market works.

Just be a little patient, not only will the price come down real soon, history has shown us that CPU makers have better overclocking batches later in production rather than earlier.

Well if u want it buy it...

Its all about supply and demand.

Itll come down in price towards MSRP in a month or two I guess... But there is Always a premium on beeing an early adapter. If U want it and have the mone buy it and otherwise wait but don't whine about it as if it was AMDs fault.

What!? 90% of users are going to pay $700+ for a processor?

The majority of users buy budget CPUs, or slightly above entry level...that's $150 and below. For $700, they could buy one or two complete PCs.

Exactly. They have something you want, and presumably you really don't want to go with the PD. Basically, they can charge whatever they want (which is whatever will give them the best price*quantity). The only way you're going to win this one is to give up having the processor now in order to save money. It really depends on how much the time is worth to you.

I assume you want the 4400+ because it's got the same cache amount as the 4800+, also it's cheaper and would overclock further than the 4800+ at stock?

yup.

Don't you know you need to have at least 100 posts to bitch about our beloved AMD on these forums? Its a right of passage.

Its like skydiving... you need to have at least 100 jumps before you're authorized to grow the huge nasty 80's moustache all the instructors in the training videos have. Thats just how things work. Keep posting and maybe in the future we'll take you seriously.

BTW AMD is great, they can do no wrong, I worship the chip god that is AMD.... (Note my sub-100 psot mark as well)

If a company knows that there's a big market for something, they're going to do what they can to provide the product. It's possible that AMD just can't get the yields they need yet to have loads of new processors on the market.
Look at the solar cell market - solar cells are in huge demand now, but the prices are skyrocketing because of a shortage of pure silicon. Sure they can rake in lots of cash per panel, but they can't produce anything in volume because they are low on raw materials.
So I don't think it's bad planning on AMD's part. It's just the way it is until they are able to ramp up production.
