Baghdad Jim McDermott(D) questions timing of Saddam capture

It must have been a pretty rough weekend for the congressman.

WASHINGTON -- The Washington congressman who criticized President Bush while visiting Baghdad last year has questioned the timing of the capture of deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., told a Seattle radio station Monday the U.S. military could have found Saddam "a long time ago if they wanted." Asked if he thought the weekend capture was timed to help Bush, McDermott chuckled and said: "Yeah. Oh, yeah."

The Democratic congressman went on to say, "There's too much by happenstance for it to be just a coincidental thing."

Hope he has some evidence to back that up?

Cheers,

A Sunday early AM the week prior to X-mas?

Personally, I would have chosen a Tuesday about 11:00 AM EST in October to implement my nefarious right wing plot. That way you get all the time zones, and ride the polls into the election.

Politicians operate on gut feeling. There is no need for evidence. Their word is considered to be gospel. :disgust:

Well then I hope people remember the basis for arguements should be fact when they cast their next votes.

Just another example of the LBHs (liberal Bush haters) talking out of the exit tunnel.:disgust:

Everyone have a Merry RamaHanuKwanzMas!

BTW, just so much bullsh*t flying about how people are mad that this is good for Bush, they can't be happy.

if your a truely committed Bush hater...here is some more paranoid ideation to ponder...

the "trial" of Saddam will start right about the time the Democratic convention takes place...stealing the lime-light from the Dems, and making their positions on the Iraq invasion harder to justify. The trial will runup to the election, with daily "revelations" about Saddam's atrocities (Hitler will end up looking good in comparison)

just about one week before the presidential election, Osama bin Laden will be "found" (in reality, he has been cryovac frozen and stored at the Vice Presidents residence. He will be thawed out and displayed as "fresh").

..........there's more, but i don't think you could handle it...

The guy could be right(stranger things have happened), but I think he'll live to regret making such a bizarre statement.

Most of the other democrats have dismissed McDermott's comments as ridiculous.

But hey, who knows. Osama's probably already been captured too. I'm sure Bush is waiting until about a month before the election to announce it.

How are you any different than the Congressman?

He's not a representative of the federal government speaking to a broadcast media outlet, now is he? Maybe that contrast isn't stark enough for you, however.

I didn't think of that. Hey I bet their hair color is different too. Don't know why I miss such essentials.

Bush delivered Saddam for the holidays, and Osama will be unveiled a month before the '04 election.

A couple of military officers got cashered this year for speaking out. A politician's word carries more weight within the media than the military.

Agree with Andrew

Thanks...I'll be sure to pull back all my mutual funds in October. So helpful to have your own AT Seers available.

Well, knowing Rumsfeld and Rove, I wouldn't put it past them. But, I seriously doubt it is true. Getting Saddam was a very top priority from the beginning, or should have been. I'm glad they got the scoundrel. Heck, I hope he's turned over to the Kurds for a "proper" trial and execution. Normally I'm against the death penalty but I'll make an exception for that piece of merde.
