I just watched this today, one of the most horrific and graphic programs I have seen about the war in Iraq.

All I can say is God Bless our Soldiers. :brokenheart:

Ps. Don't start a flame war on bush/war/iraq. The purpose of this thread is to pay homage to our soldiers.

I've known plenty of US soldiers, and they're good people. And they really are doing the best job they can in Iraq...it's just a crappy place to be right now.

saw it for the first time last night...great show...unlike any other surgery show i've seen...

also very depressing but just couldn't stop watching...God bless those that are serving

oh wow.... I cant believe how they could possibly get a "purple heart for receiving wounds in combat" is that a good thing or a bad thing?

😕

FYI Red was only posting how that episode made him feel while you on the other hand are attempting to start a flame war. Keep it up and you'll be spending the next month elsewhere.

A good friend of mine died in Iraq 2 weeks ago. He didnt agree with our Commander-in-Chief's decision, but was still a brave man.

RIP SPC Eric Clark

damn....they were amputating a leg and it was like an electric saw that you see at a butcher's or something. pretty sad, and disgusting too. 🙁

Anyhow, amazing show. Really has to make you appreciate the volunteer armed forces.

It amazes me how roughly the body can be handled during surgery. Saws, drills, screws, etc.

I'm sorry to hear that.

In case any wants to, this is a good website that connects people with soldiers in need of care packages:

Another good one.

that was the most disturbing tv show I have ever seen but I couldn't stop watching it. It's amazing to see how well adjusted those doctors are given what they see on a daily basis. The part where they had cigar night on the roof while they watched the mortars go off was just strange.

edit - and on a minor political note I think it would be tough for anyone to still believe that our troops should be there after watching that show.

I guy that impressed me was the Chaplain who had to give last rites to all those who were killed. He stated that he didn't even bother to estimate how many of those he gave out because it would be too disturbing for him to do so.

I didn't believe it before watching that show.

Well no matter how you felt prior to watching this show it does bring the reality of it to the fore front

regardless of the show, I still believe they should.

Imagine the reaction of people is this type of show was done during WWII.

My brother in law in his first month in Iraq last year (he's a medic with a USMC unit) had to clean up a few Iraq bodies, one of them being a beheaded Iraqi who helped the Americans they found lying in the middle of the road. He said that was something he never wants to experience again. He also had to help "clean up" the scene when his unit was trailing the 11 Marines killed in that attack in Nov 05 (all 11 were from 29Palms too, where he's stationed at)

I think all those tens of thousands Western Unions from the State Dept had a pretty similar effect during WWII.

I like how Richard Marchinko calls the Purple Heart: Enemy Marksman Badges

That's how I feel about that show. That's not supporting our soldiers, it's pitying them.

War is war. It's never been pretty and it's been going on since the dawn of time. Whether this is a "bullshit war" or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that these guys are heros and more of a man than most of us could ever hope to be.

This war is no worse in damages than any other, it's just brought to you in HD glory while you rest comfortably on your living room couch enjoying the freedom these soldiers are dying for.

Actually many of those severly wounded are surviving where as even in Viet Nam many of these injuries would have been fatal.

What really struck me is all the casualties due to IED's. I agree with you 100% that these guys are brave because you know that many of them are scared sh!tless, would rather be elsewhere yet buck up and do their duty no matter how they feel about it.

This show didn't change my opinion of the war or the soldiers who are unfortunate enough to have to fight it.
