My friend's PC keeps on giving message at booting'checksum error, defaults loaded'and even after changing values in BIOS setup when I save and exit from BIOS setup it again restarts.I tried booting it from floppy but eeven after giving first boot device as Floppy drive it boots from Hard disk. Its windows inatal has become corrupted and for reinstalling/Reformatting etc i need booting from floppy.

My question is whether it is a bios or smps problem? Or may be MOBO problem? Please help.

Bios Checksum errors are either because your mobo battery is low, or your mobo is dying. The ECS K7S5A is known to give such problems. I'd suspect a dead battey first.

Hi galt,
The battery is not dead but yes, it is old so probably not in the pink of health.I will change it and then let you know.
