I have a computer with XP pro installed---and have a variety of user accounts set up---with two of these user accounts being administrative accounts.

In one account I can use ie7 to go to the windows upgrade page and download any updates.
The other administrative user account simply never reaches the upgrade site---even after I wait and wait---security setting are the same on both accounts---no error message shows.
Never gets to checking if I have a valid windows OS even. Otherwise neither account shows any other problems.

Anyone have any idea why?

when through the process does the one account do nothing? when you open ie7, goto windowsupdates-it then never loads the page? after the scan? does it even run the scan? create another admin account for a test, see if that one works right, according to what is the faulty user an administrator? under "user accounts" or under "computer management"->local users and groups->users->the username with problem->"member of" tab?

To sieistgfanzfett,

Who asks-----------when through the process does the one account do nothing?

Short answer yes as stated---and the other account works and I can update windows----after that I fail to follow what you suggest.

Please slower step by agonizing step.

i ask that question...

i need to visualize eactly when something stops working properly to understand things clearly to know what direction to go in, in order to fix the problem, stupid i know, thats how i fix wierd pc problems at client sites for my job though. i do not have the full pictuce of your problem, just a spot of it, i know 1 account works already.

the point of my suggestion/questions is to narrow down if that profile is corrupt on the user that cant access the windows upate page, a new profile for a new admin shouldnt have the problem in my view.
