BadAxe 3 - X38 Intel Reference Board

Excellent looking board. Unfortunate that it's not likely that there will be a DDR2 version of this board. While reading the slides, it makes me think how much impact/initiative NV has on the high-end/enthusiast market. The features implemented in X38 is basically copies of SLI chipsets'. Dual PEG (SLI), XMP (EPP), Extreme Tuning (nTune), etc. Intel arguably has a more advanced storage subsystem, though. I wonder if the heat sinks on the board are made of aluminum or copper (nickel-plated)? I would very much like copper variant since it doesn't look easy to implement after-market cooling due to the mounting system. Can't believe the guy didn't take a picture of back I/O ports after taking all those pictures! Very sexy looking board regardless.

Did I read that correctly they are calling it the 'Maximus'? Or was he referring to another mobo?

the PP slide that follows indicates supoort for DDR2. I myself am waiting for an Asus WS board with this chipset with PCI-X slot for my SCSI controller.

This board design looks so clean. wonder if it has any legacy PCI slots, if not then all the expansion will have be rely on PCIe which I think might still be a few more years before it catches on. However, I must say this board design looks excellent, kudos to intel.

from the pics and looking at the dimm's (at least the blue ones) it appears to be for DDR3... but i'd be surprised if they didn't release a DDR2 version...

DDR3 is quite impressive but unfortunately too pricey at the moment... but if i had the money... 😀

I'd take an Intel board of Asus based on recent experiences with the quality and service from both manufacturers. I only wish Intel had anodized their heatsinks 🙂
