BAD_POOL_CALLER error message causes infinite loop

I tried to install a modem on my sons PC and half way through the installation it hung. I restarted it but each time it now restarts itself and just after Windows loads the last desktop icons, it closes with a Windows blue screen and an error message -

bad_pool_caller Stop:0X000000c2 (0X0000007, 0X00000cd4, 0X00000000, 0X4ad260a0)

I've tried system restore in safe mode but apparantly you cannot run it in safe mode. I've started it in safe mode and uninstalled the modem but the problem continues.

Anyone got a fix for this please?

That STOP MESSAGE has to do with a faulty driver or software.

In Safe Mode, go to the EVENT Viewer and see if the error has a file(s)
listed in the log. If so, search for the file(s) and remove.

If no file is listed, do a search for the MODEM's INF file (located in the HIDDEN Windows \ Inf
directory).

To make certain you pick the correct file, look on the Driver Install Disk for the correct name.

I had that error come up on my system yesterday. I booted up to safe mode and used system restore to go back to the day before. Been running fine since then. I didn't install any new programs or add hardware so I have no idea what caused it to happen on my PC.
