So boot with a BartPE Boot CD, remove the file from its' location, and see what happens when you reboot into XP.

moving the file just makes my cd/dvd drive not show up in mycomputer

I also attempted uninstalling the device in device manager, but after a reboot the same problem started up again.

There you go. AFS2k.sys. So, run MPSReports, explode/uncompress the CAB file it makes, and then search the *devices.txt (or *drivers.txt) file - I forget which - for that "afs2k" string, and you'll see where it is, who makes it, and all kind of other information that will help you in removing it.

Please post that information, and please post any section of *filters.txt that has the afs2k.sys file in it as well (post the surrounding "paragraph").

Go into regedt32 and delete the lowerfilters value (ie remove the AFS2k text, don't delete the lowerfilters object). Rename the afs2k.dll file afs2k.old. Reboot. Can you now use iTunes without issue?

If you don't wish to edit the registry, I suspect uninstalling Daemon Tools and/or any of Nero's tools will also cleanly remove that filter driver.

running the mpsreport tool in normal windows mode made the error occur, I had to do it in safe mode.

Okay, I can locate the key in the reg editor, but i'm not sure how to modify it.

In running MPSReports aren't you prompted for whether to run msinfo32 or not?

Any luck so far with the registry edit?

Which is.... what? The bad pool caller BSOD? Please, details!

In Regedt32 just find the key, click on it, and remove the text for that file.

You need to go here:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

You are going elsewhere. Please go to the above location and look there.

So far so good. I've gotten through 4.5 songs ripping and no BSOD. Now, can you explain to me what exactly that registry change did?

And THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help!!! I'm usually not a computer retard like this, windows problems just seem to lack logic.

It's completely logical -- you installed a bad driver (probably with either Nero or Daemon Tools) and that caused the machine to bluescreen. You opened up the dumpfile in the Microsoft debugger and found the culprit. You then removed the driver from your machine. Easy as can be....

Simply use the information in my .sig to debug the dump. Post the results of !analyze -v here, and more likely than not that will point to the problem right there.

Oh, due to Ike all that's down. Install MS's debugger, set up your symbols files, and do an !analyze -v after that's done. The MS site has details on how to set up the symbols on the debugger download page. If you need more details post, but please do take a few minutes to jump to MS's site and grab the MS debugger. windbg is one way to search for it.

(This is a new problem, so it would be best if you'd start a new thread with this issue.)
