Bad Vcore regulation... any solution?

I'm kind of worried about my Vcore voltage. I'm running a T-bred B 2700 at 2.36 (175 x 13.5), and I have the Vcore set to the default, 1.65. However, Asus reports the voltage as 1.872-1.888, no matter what setting it's at. This worries me, because it shouldn't be that high.

My motherboard is an Asus A7V8X (not great for overclocking, I know), and my power supply is... I don't remember. It's decent for when I bought it a couple years ago, a 300W. The label doesn't remind me what brand (but it's not a big name).

So what's making the Vcore so high? Would that be my motherboard or my PSU? Everything runs flawlessly, but I can't help but think that not being able to regulate the Vcore at 1.65 is a bad thing. Please let me know!

Have you tried flahing it to the latest bios and see if that fixes it???

Have you tried using other monitoring software beside the likely asus probe you are running now??? Try speedfan, MBM, and even cpu-Z-116...See if you see similar results....

Could just be a software glitch and is being reported erroroneously...

Are you getting that reading from Asus Probe software within Windows? I don't have much faith in Asus Probe.

Sorry for the late reply; I've been away for a day.

Anyway, I'll check whether there's a new BIOS. As for the reading, I get the same Vcore from both Probe and Sandra. I agree that Asus Probe isn't always exactly reliable. I'll try those programs you mentioned, Duvie, but I figured since Sandra corroborated it, it wasn't a software error.

Okay, I checked and I'm running the latest board BIOS. I installed MBM5 as well, and it gives me the same +/- 1.8 reading. Hmm.

Disable your overvolt i just did that to my board and i was able to adjusted the voltage to 1.7

kingshoc: Where can I disable overvolt? Is that a jumper, or in the BIOS? I didn't even know about that feature... Looks like that's the problem. Oh, I JUST saw your thread on the same subject! Oops. I can't find my paper manual... so I'm DLing it. Thanks a lot for the solution. I never even -checked- that jumper.

MLJGTI: The high Vcore probably isn't a huge cause for worry, but I was just concerned because I couldn't regulate it, and running it that high will probably shorten the lifespan of your CPU. It's not horrible, but it's not healthy, either.

Edit! I located the overvolt jumper near the upper left corner, and realized why I never messed with it: It's a pain to switch with that capacitor (or whatever) right next to it. Shorted pins 2 and 3, and tried booting at 1.65 V. Windows didn't start, however, until I raised it all the way to 1.725. I haven't checked for stability yet, though. Thanks, kingshoc, for solving my problem! Much appreciated!

My CPU idles 8 C cooler now, too.

Right I have checked my motherboard and overvolt is disabled already. In the bios I only have the option to alter my Vcore from 1.75 - to 1.85 with 2 increments in between?

Do you know y this is?

The available voltage settings depend on your CPU. I see you're running a 2000+. Did they make a Palomino 2000? I honestly don't remember... If that's the case, anyway, the factory Vcore for the Palominos is 1.75 volts, so that's normal.

There was a Palomino 2000+ (fried one about a month ago with a bad heatsink install )
