Bad switch or something else?

This is a completely new build, the only things I have tested already are the PSU and an old 13gb HDD. I pieced everything together inside my case then went to power it on and absolutely nothing happened. The 5VSB light on the ABit IC7-G mobo comes on when the PSU is plugged in, but when the power switch is pushed nothing happens. No fan movement, no zap, nothing. Well it turned out the wires were pulled away from the switch, so I fixed that and still nothing. Now I should be able to just short the two power switch jumper headers to power the rig up, correct? Short of that I have no idea what's going on. It's my first P4 build so I may have missed something, but I'm really not seeing anything.

Specs are as follows:

P4 2.4C
ABit IC7-G
A-DATA 512MB PC4000 Vitesta
13gb hdd, cd rom drive, floppy drive
Radeon 9800 Pro
Audigy LS

I've checked all the power connections, reseated the CPU and all that jazz. Can't figure it out, any help would be appreciated. Another thing, on the stock P4 HSF, am I supposed to leave that black foil thing on there, or do I remove that and apply thermal paste?

Thanks for any help!

First confirm that you have

1) Plugged in your ATX12V power cable and your auxiliary power line for the video card (sorry if that's too obvious 😱)

2) Got the case's Power Switch wire plugged into the pins I highlighted in this picture

3) Turned the rocker switch on the power supply to the On position 😱😱😱

4) Checked for stuff that might be grounding the motherboard out, like springy finger contacts on the rear I/O shield getting into the USB and network jacks, or front USB-outlet wiring that doesn't jive with the mobo's headers, or :Q not mounting the motherboard on standoffs :Q (hey, I've seen people overlook this!)

Good luck 🙂 There's more no-POST/no-RUN brainstorms listed at the top link here.

Checked and rechecked all of that... pretty much reassembled the entire thing and still nothing. Is it a bad idea to just take a wire and short the two jumpers on the mobo?

Nothing wrong with that, or a screwdriver tip or other piece of metal too.

Got it working... silly me. Didn't notice that I had left my fan speed controllers connected, there must be a short in one of them somewhere.

Thanks for the help 🙂

Unless it's sooo late I'm losing my mind- YES!!!! Otherwise, it may not work for long.
