Bad sound with Altec Lansing 251 and nforce 2 chipset

I hope someone can help me out here.

The nforce chipset supposedly supports 5.1 audio, and my speakers (though not high end) are 5.1 speakers.

No matter which way I hook up these speakers to my motherboard, the center channel sounds 'unamplified' (you can barely here it), and the read speakers are the same way.

I've tried every combo of inputs to speaker connectors and nothing helps. Even if I adjust all the sliders in the nvidia control panel, the speaker still don't sound right.

Does anyone have else have this setup, or have any ideas?

I'm considering getting those Logitech 680's, and an audigy 2 card. I just can't get decent 5.1 sound with my current setup.

I'd love to try the spdif, but my speakers only have analog connectors.

Thanks!

Sorry.. I have the ASUS A78NX.. I think I got that right.

My speakers have the following color coded inputs:

Green, Black, and Yellow. These green is the only color match from the color coding on the motherboard's connectors.

I've been eyeing those Z-680's everyone's been talking about. Too bad Circuit City doesn't have them anymore. The problem is, I'm unsure if those will work correctly with the onboard sound either.

I thought I had an audigy lying around here somewhere... not sure what happened to it. Maybe that, or an audigy 2 would interface with these speakers better.

I'm confused.
