Bad Sign?

I've got a 30 and 45GB IBM 75GXP HD in my system. Normally they are quiet but just yesterday one of them started making a ticking noise every so often. Is this the sign of a dying HD?

its going to explode...no just kidding. If your hard drive has started making a ticking sound, check the warenty date and if its still covered send it back to the manufactur for an RMA asap. If its not still covered start saving to purchass its replacement. Every hard drive ive seen start doing that has died within a couple months if not sooner.

Both the drives are still relatively new. The 30GB is about 6 months old while the 45 is 2 months. I guess I'll just back up and wait since the warranty should be at least a year.

I wonder what is causing it though. I thought IBMs were pretty reliable that's why I went with them instead of Maxtor.

Thanks for that thread DioCassius.

I've got a dual boot 98FE/2000 system though I mainly use 2000.

But I just realized my system is only ATA 66 not 100. I wonder if the issues are the same though.
