Bad Ram?

RAM: Corsair CMX512-3200LLPT 512MB DDR400 XMS3200 64Mx64 184 DIMM Low Latency SPD Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader Retail from googlegear.com

Motherboard: Epox 8rda+

Today I put my computer components together and tried to boot up. The system didn't even post, instead it just sat for a few seconds and then an alarm from the pc speaker went off. I tried taking everything off the motherboard but the video card, processor, hsf, and ram and got the same thing. Checked all my connections and got the same thing again. I switched out the ram with a friends stick of 512meg ddr2100 ram and the system booted fine. After that, I took out his stick of ram and put mine back it. The system booted fine with my XMS3200 stick but the screen showed that the ram was running at 133mhz presumably from the saved settings from running my friends ram. I tried to load the default values to bring it to 200mhz and the system wouldn't post and just rang the alarm.

The motherboard is an Epox 8rda+ and one stick of xms3200 ram.

Am I doing something wrong or did I get a bad stick? Thanks for any help!

I don't know if this matters.. but did you put the memory on the far right side or the left side? The bank on the right side (all by itself) is the one you're supposed to use with a single stick. Also, the 8RDA+ comes with that red LED on it, so it should give you a code when it's messing up.. if it's RAM related you might be getting C1 or something, but the back of the manual will tell you all the meanings for each code. Maybe you should try flashing the BIOS to the newest version (1/29). I'm using the exact same RAM so its not a compatibility issue.

you can use the left side ones as well but you have to use the middle slot...

---------------------- far right

---------------------- middle (you can use this one as well) so try this one
---------------------- far left

also , did you drop your multiplier?

cuz if it's set to default 13 and you try 200 = 2600 so it won't post

I tried moving the ram to all 3 slots and that didn't seem to make any difference. What settings should I mess with in bios? Should I do anything to the jumpers?

What's the code that the motherboard is showing on the 2 digit LED?
The jumpers are already set to what you need, so they shouldn't be a problem.

With the machine off, put the PC2100 memory in. Boot the machine. Get into the BIOS. Set "Memory Frequency" to "sync". Relax the memory timings. Save and exit the bios. Shutdown the machine. Take the PC2100 out. Put the corsair back in. Boot the machine.

I'm sure he doesn't want his PC3200 running at PC2100 speeds..
That is a way to make it work though.

Yeah, that was just to make it boot up. Later, he can optimize the timings.

Apparently flashing the bios will fix your problem.
