Bad Processor or Board

Hello all,

I recently built an Intel system around the i7 4790k with an Asus Gryphon Z97 board. Problem is, I can't seem to get it to boot at all. Windows errors out with a cryptic NTFS File System error or IRQ error. I actually can't even test Ubuntu on this system with a USB drive. It gives me Fixing Recursive Fault But Reboot Is Needed.

This is the third replacement motherboard, 3rd type of RAM and this one is on the QVL list and I've tried the latest BIOS update. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I even removed all the jumpers for the front panel, USB 3 and audio header and all the drives. BIOS has been set to default about a million times.

With or without my R9 290
Samsung 830 SSD
Corsair AX850 PSU Even replaced the cables since I have spares.

I dunno where to go except to call Intel and ask them for a replacement. Or throw the z97 and 4790k into the trash.

I did get it to boot once on the first board and then no dice.

Does the system post before failing Windows boot?

It sounds like either a storage subsystem hardware failure or a misconfiguration problem, as Philly suggests.

Where did the SSD Windows boot disk come from? The previous computer? I say this, because you don't say how you were able to install Windows in the first place.

On the other hand, you say you can't test Ubuntu. So back to the first question: does the system post as you would expect?

I know it's been a long time since I posted this thread, but I have been pretty busy with other things along with figuring out this stupid problem. In the end though, I went to Intel with all the figuring out I did and they wanted me to RMA the processor, so I have done so. First time this has ever happened to me and I've been fooling around with PCs since P2 cartridge days. I'm hoping this replacement will settle the matter.

Thanks for the replies.
