Bad Processor? Chipset? Mobo?

My new 4400 running is acting kinda goofy. I had it running at 2.2Ghz for awhile. But it kept giving very poor results in CPU tests. In the 3Dmark06 CPU tests it's getting 1FPS.

In the SiSadra CPU tests it gives good results on the first run, but each run after that it gets gradually smaller and smaller, until it's pretty pathetic.

In all the game/video tests it keeps "skipping" even if it's getting 300+FPS sometimes it just "skips" and the sound skips too.

This is quite annoying when I was playing the game. I overclocked it to 2.6Ghz and it still showed the same poor results.

Any ideas? Or should I RMA?

My GPU is running consistantly and fine though. It runs extremly smooth until the "skip".

My system:

X2 4400
7800GT
Corsair XMS Pro 512MB
COrsair XMS Platinum 512MB (The reason I post this is because they are mismatched)
OCZ 420W Powerstream.

The RAM is from my old computer and it's been running for the past year just fine. So I don't think the RAM is going bad now.

Thanks.

Well, you're SUPPOSED to get less than 1 FPS in the CPU tests (it's capped at 1 FPS!), and the skipping problem is probably because you need to install AMD's dual core processor driver and the Windows XP dual-core hotfix from Microsoft. Also, if you're using onboard sound that's another potential problem there.

LOL all this time I thought my processor was sucking hardcore at the test.

Ok going to find the Driver and hotfix right now.

THanks,

As for the sound issue. I only have onboard sound.

Hmm...I can't find the windows hotfix. Anybody know the code for it?

Ok update.

The updates made my proc a lot better, but the problem is still there.

I'm starting to believe it's the Video card. Because everytime I enter the Nvidia Control Panel the video card kinda "turns off" for a second before returning to normal and the control panel is displayed.

Any ideas?

update your video card drivers.......before assuming anything!

Well it was the most up to day Video Drivers, 91.47 from Nvidia's website.

I uninstalled the Nvidia ntune program thingy. And it solved the problem thanks for the help guys.

I has the same problem with the skipping, it was spyware/malware/virus whatever you wanna call it that was doing it. Run every file scan program you can get your hands on and watch your skipping skip away 😀
