I just found this email...
As some of you may already be aware, Thrill Host Web Services was acquired by MidPhase Services at the beginning of February. This acquisition did not include the Windows portion of Thrill Host.

Effective February 29th, we will no longer be offering hosting on the Windows platform.
You will notice that you have not been charged for hosting during the month of February. Depending on your billing cycle, many of you received February for free.

By providing advance notice of this action, we anticipate it will allow ample time for you to find a new hosting service. If you would like assistance in locating a host that will fit your needs, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will help out wherever possible.

You will have access as normal to your account until midnight, February 29th. At that time the server will be taken offline. Please make sure you have retrieved your files prior to this time.

I personally want to thank you for your patronage to Thrill Host and wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Matt
Thrill Host Web Services

I've been thinking of ditching them lately because their speeds on their linux side has been horrible ), but their windows side (which I'm hosting a business site on) has been fine. Dang. And they give me a whole week to find a new host and transport the site. Wonderful. :disgust:

Most ThrillHost customers use Linux web hosting, a small portion are affected by this.

Your thread title should reflect that this only impacts Windows web hosting, not Linux.

I was shocked to learn that midPhase acquires ThrillHost, only 1 week after I cancelled my ThrillHost account to go to a different web host provider.

I'm with Thrillhost linux and haven't noticed any problems lately....seems to be going along the same as it did before. They sent out a notice about the acquisition a few weeks ago.....I should check on the billing issue...haven't noticed if thats been an issue or not...

You should know what you signed up for. But here's an easy answer... Do you have Cpanel? if yes, you are on the linux side. If no, you're on the Windows side.

It affects all Thrillhost people as we're no longer going to be Thrillhost people but midPhase people.

Yeah, I have CPanel. I didn't really care what kind of hosting I had when I signed up, as long as it was cheap.

Is MidPhase bad? I really don't care who the name of the hosting is as long as everything works and keeps working. I personally haven't had any problems with ThrillHost, but it seems like I keep reading stuff where its not very good. Whats the deal with that dathorn place? 13.50/mo is a little more than I'm paying now, but if its going to be a problem to stick with TH/MidPhase then I might think about switching.....does Dathorn (or any other host) allow you to create email addresses for other people but have them be able to change their email passwords without going through cPanel?

I just sent an email to Dan of midPhase and Matt of ThrillHost with this thread's URL, just in case they care to comment.

During the time I was with ThrillHost I was happy considering the price ($10 for 3GB/30GB resellers account) despite a few bumps in the road.

Since then I have moved to UltraUnix.NET and it's been great.

$13.99 per month gives you
Linux resellers account
WHM/cPanel
2.5GB disk space
25GB bandwidth
Here is a speed test file (right click, save target as)
They can move all your web hosting accounts for you, for free
Dual XEON, 2GB RAM, 2x36GB SCSI Hard Drives
CyberWurx data center in Atlanta, GA
Fantastico auto installer scripts included
99.99% uptime recently

Unfortunately few web hosts offer affordable Windows reseller accounts, but here are a few choices:
  • Reseller-Center.com offers Unix and Windows web hosting in 1 account.
  • Mesopia.com offers the same but you get more bang for your buck.
  • CredibleHost.com offers affordable Windows reseller account, I might be able to get you 25% - 50% off, PM me with your AIM/MSN.

Yes, thank you Ross for pointing me here.

The email posted at the beginning of this thread only affects Windows (Ensim) clients that were located on the Cobra server under ThrillHost. MidPhase has acquired all of the Linux/cPanel folks and you should have received notification from them on that. If not, the thread Ross linked to above is a copy of that notice. There are no changes occuring with the Linux/cPanel side and all services are continuing as normal.

As for your billing if you are on the Linux/cPanel side, perhaps Dan will chime in but here is the excerpt from the notice:

"we are moving all ThrillHost customers billing dates to the first of March,
which gives everyone the remainder of the month to be hosted for free! On the first
of March, the credit card that you have on file with ThrillHost will be charged in
the amount that you previously agreed with"

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the windows side. If you have a linux/cPanel question, please contact MidPhase.

Thanks

Matt

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would drop by (Thanks RossMAN) and let you all know
that we are doing *everything* we can to live up to the high standards
that Matt set for us. Matt let us aquire the Unix business because he
felt that we shared a common value of keeping the customer happy,
and we do.

We've so far upgraded ram on both Legend and Raven and given all
of the ThrillHost customers Feb for free.

Let me know if we are doing anything wrong, or anything right :) Best
wishes,

Dan

Hey, Dan.

Thanks for the bit of news.

One thing...how about better communication to customers re:upcoming maintenance or upgrades on the servers?

And, does midPhase offer forum-based support in addition to support tickets? It's nice to know if others are having issues before opening a support ticket.

Matt and Dan don't check the AT forums all that often (after all I alerted them of this thread).

Please e-mail dan@midphase.com with your questions if you would like a response.
