Bad move or?

Hey i'm building a new budget system with a new cpu, mainboard, ram and video card coming in a couple of days but i didn't think about my power supply while i was ordering the new stuff. I have an old antec truepower 550 watt psu and was wondering if using a 20 pin psu on a 24 pin board is a smart move or not? I'd be using it with a asus p5q pro, e7200, 2gig ram, and a radeon 4850.

The old psu has a single 12v rail with a 24 amp max output. Now i heard some people use old psu's with new setups, I just have never done it myself and I'm a bit skeptical about it. Can any of you guys give me some advice, heh it'd be nice to keep this psu as I paid a pretty penny for it 5 years ago.

I'm asuming its a TurePower II PSU right? If thats the case then you really need to replace the PSU as well. In some cases its OK to reuse a PSU but its not a very good idea. In your case its not a good idea at all. The TPII line from Antec was plagued with problems. Not to mention it is just under what your system will need power wise. Your system will demand about 26A to 28A or more from teh 12V rails. Keep in mind as PSUs age they drop off in there ablitiy to supply adiquate power. The average useful life span of a PSU is about 5 years.
