Bad motherboard?

I have an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. Whenever I load a game of Far Cry I get a BSOD. I replaced my RAM, tried just 1 stick, lowered clock rate, increased latencies, increased voltages, and replaced the video card and it still happens. My temps are fine, it occurs when the only devices I have taking power are the mobo, CPU, RAM, video card, one hard drive and case fans. For a while when I turned up the voltages, increased latencies, and used a single stick of RAM it would work, but now it has stopped working even then. I have a friend with a nearly identical setup (same video card, same RAM, etc) and his works fine. Is this a motherboard problem? I don't see what else it could be.

Try switching the PSU. What do you have on there?

Antec TrueBlue 480W, should be more than enough. Same exact power supply my friend has and his runs fine with more devices than me. Also I should mention that every other game runs fine, the only problem I have is with Far Cry.

I have neo4 and have the same problem - except no bsod, the system just shuts down hard. Of course I sent it back to Monarch and they said they couldn't replicate (my patience and warranty is running thin).

I can only play it for a few minutes then it crashes. and have to remove power cable for a while before it boots back up! Is it only in Far Cry ? Mine also shutsdown while trying to reboot after running the system with some load (ie prime95).

What kind of video card do you have?

Well...yes and no....

See, my Far Cry install CD got scratched by an idiot friend of mine and won't install anymore, and Ubisoft was gonna make me pay too much to replace it, so I pirated a copy. I figure since I have a legit copy I'm not really doing anything wrong. Anyway one of the patches came with the pirated version but not the most recent patch. My friend uses the same version without any problems though.

I have a Geforce 6800 Ultra.

2 things,

If you select to unistall the game, I'm 99% sure you'll get the option to a "repair". Might try that if you haven't already.

Regardless of where your disk came from, you should be able to install the newer patches. Mine has been working fine with 1.1. But I'm running win98se & win2kpro, some of the newer patches may have bug fixes for XP (as usual).
