bad motherboard! need help thinking...

No, I'm sure your 9500 Pro would be 1.5V like it wants. That was more of a reply to Markfw900. Oh, and the old Tbird will be fine in the board, it supports all SocketA back to Duron 600's (I think... checking).

POST CODE

FF -
Problem:
1. BIOS chip inserted incorrectly.
2. Incorrect BIOS update version.
3. Mainboard problem
4. Add-on card inserted incorrectly.

I haven't touched the bios chip, so that should be fine, I haven't gotten it to post much less fooled with the bios update version, I guess it COULD be the board, but I just got the damn thing from mwave, and the only card in there is the video card and it's seated properly...

I'm seriously going to break something

Relax Dude it's just 1 toy 😉...it matbe broke sowhat...you got others and an RMA 😉...No PCI Vid cards hanging out or squares (CPU's)...All my latest Epox builds have an FF code when running so you may have to send it back. What Rev is it?...just curious cause they have newer 1.1's but I'm told it's the same thing but without some print...nothings changed

Hey, is the PSU's fan plug still plugged into a fan header, or did you unplug that? If you didn't, try it and see. I was just re-reading and noticed that it does power, or maybe signal RPM, from the mobo header. Maybe the low RPM is boggling the motherboard.

I know, but I had a problem with fed ex getting it here in the first place and now it doesn't work 🙂 I'm relaxed, I just like to talk a bunch to scare it *lol* it's supposed to be my only computer, I'm having to borrow this laptop from work to work and the like, so it is kinda important it runs.

yea, I have my old thunderbird 850 I can try as soon as mech lets me know it'll work or not, but I don't have any pci vids

it's rev 1.1 fyi

From here they say Athlon/AthlonXP/Duron. "Athlon" would mean Thunderbird, and the manual says it does support 200MHz and 266MHz CPUs, so that sounds like a "go."

unplugged the psu from the motherboard, no change, going on to changing the cpus, give me...however long it takes for me to stop cursing 😉

His last post was very important/valid about the header pins (not that he has meaningles posts🙂)...LOl and you may have to wait awhile while his makes up his bill 😉

LOL! 😀 Well, after recommending this stuff, I better put my money where my mouth is when it doesn't work right 😛

haha, thanks so much for the help, it's better to have more heads than one, esp if I was doing something stupid...

alright, tested other cpu in it, no change, same stuff.

couple of questions before I call it a night and test the video card and monitor in someone else's computer (if I can) tomorrow:

1) anyone who's got the 8rda+, does it beep when it posts? I THINK I hear a beep, but it could be wishful thinking...

2) the ys tech fan I hvae on the heatsink, should it be PULLING air away or blowing are ONTO the heatsink??

almost bed time for now...

I set up my 80mm YS Tech blowing air down into the fins, but what works, works... you could try it both ways if the board ever decides to work. 😱 I honestly don't recall if my 8RDA+ beeps when it posts, or not. It's downtown, but if no one's answered this by the time I get to work around 11AM, I'll let you know (I don't use my case speaker BTW).

Have you tried the HEC power supply in any other system, or tried any other PSU in this system, by the way? I guess we take for granted that it's healthy, being brand-new, but...

Another random thought: any bent pins in your monitor cable plug?

Bonus random thought: try without keyboard/mouse plugged in yet?

have not tried a different psu, or tested this one in another system.

just tried a different monitor, nothing, so it's not the monitor.

I've been testing it without keyboard/mouse for the most of this discussion 🙂

Tried it underwater yet? 😉

Ahhh, Mr. EPoX... vwe have vways ofv making you TALK!

By the way, I assume you meant Corsair PC3200, not Crucial, right? Look at the sticker and compare to this one. Does yours say v1.1 on it like the one in that photo (assuming you have Corsair)?

yup, my sticker's a lot more pretty than that, but it has the same info, sorry about the typo, get the two mixed up!

and I don't think under water would help 🙂 last effort is to test the video card in someone else's computer I guess...if that doesn't work tomorrow, I dunno what to doooo

Ok cool, the v1.1 modules had a modified set of default SPD values that avoided an issue that arose with A7N8X's, and probably headed off issues with other boards as well. Anyway

:Q idea

Have you tried the monitor on both of the video outs, assuming you have a dual-out card?

BTW, I pointed this thread out to Insane3D too. Maybe he will spot something we haven't thought of yet.

it has dual out if I convert the dvi using the lil converter I have, and no I haven't tried that, though I'm not sure why one would work and the other wouldn't...gimme a sec

that's a negative, no change in the status of the computer

Xazzu, here's one more thing for you to think about in the AM: the FSB header would need to be capped (133/166) for the 2100+, but probably would need its cap removed for your Thunderbird (for the 100/133 option), if you didn't think of that already.

You don't even get a boot up screen so you can get into the bios? Check the clear cmos jumper. Maybe it's in the clear position. Did you try it with just the minimum needed to boot up. Unplug anything not needed to boot. Just cpu, a stick of memory, a hard drive, power supply and video card only. If the bios chip is socketed try making sure it's seated good.

forgot to uncap it for the other cpu, but I think it'd give me a different problem.

cmos jumper is in the right position, I already cleared it once just for shits and giggles, and the only stuff I have connected to try to get it to boot is the vid card and the processor, nothing else attached.
