Trying to fix friend's computer. He thinks something is fried. It posts but freezes when loading
windows xp in normal or safe mode (was working in safe mode for a while which makes me think the hardware is ok) I've tried swapping ram, video card, ect and updated the bios but it still freezes. What should I try next? Don't want to have to reformat but thats looking like the only option. Thanks

Yeah, def. looking like a software problem. Reformatting is a pain, but thanks to Windows, it has become a routine. I would try this first before even testing any hardware.

if he needs files from the HD try using a spare one in its place...and then hooking it up as the second so u can steal ur files from it if needed.
a similar thing happend to me..i borrowed an ancient HD from a friend and booted up just fine. a little safe mode administrator action...files are back..no harm no foul

Yeah just gotta find my xp pro cd. I've already got his harddrive in my computer and I tried to make a full backup but it failed so I just grabbed his important stuff. Thanks
